Deep Silver has announced the 'Faction Pack' DLC for 'Metro: Last Light'...

Deep Silver announced this afternoon that the first piece of DLC for Metro: Last Light will be titled 'Faction Pack', and will drop on July 16th in North America, and July 17th everywhere else.

With the 'Faction Pack', players will get three original single player missions featuring new weapons, locations from Metro 2033, and the return of a terrifying mutant foe.

Official synposis from Deep Silver:

As a Special Detachment Sniper of the Redline, players must infiltrate a heavily guarded Reich Outpost at night, under the cover of a deadly radioactive storm...

• ...before defending the Frontline as a Reich 'Heavy', armed with some of the most devastating weaponry found in the Metro.

• Lastly, players take the role of a Polis Ranger in training, tasked with exploring the vast Library complex for artifacts and relics. Salvage can be exchanged for ammunition, filters and hazard suits allowing ever deeper exploration into the Library. Rangers are advised to ignite torches and leave a trail of lights, so they can find their way back to the base before their precious oxygen runs out...

The Faction Pack will only cost $4.99 / 400 Microsoft Points, and will be the first of four DLC packs included in the Metro: Last Light Season Pass, which Deep Silver has also detailed.

There will be three additional packs: The 'Tower Pack', The 'Developer pack', and The 'Chronicles Pack'.  The Tower Pack will include a challenge based game mode with an online leaderboard for players to fight their way up the combat simulator known as The Tower.  The Developer Pack will contain a fully stocked Shooting Gallery, the AI Arena and Metro Museum, as well as an added solo mission titled 'The Spiders' Nest'. And, finally, the 'Chronicles Pack' will feature the original single player missions but as Pavel, Khan and Anna, and will tell more of their individual stories.

GTA V vehicle moding and weapons detailed

Rockstar has elaborated on vehicle customisation and weapons in GTA V, and here are the details...

According to Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto V is going to be the biggest and most complex outing of the series so far, and along with this increase in both size and content comes a slew of tweaks and new additions, with some features bringing back elements of older GTA, especially fan favorite, San Andeas.

Following the gameplay reveal trailer yesterday comes a few details of the vehicle customisation and weapons usage. Talking to Game InformerGTA V's lead mission designer, Imran Sarwar, and combat designer Phil Hooker revealed some details.

When it comes to car customisation, GTA V isn't simply going to offer up optional aesthetics, and the whole idea of tuning and customising your ride will be integrated into the game, with some missions embracing it.

“...rather than it simply being an additional option for players to experiment with, we wanted to expand it and integrate it more deeply into the game so that it would seamlessly slot in with everything else that the player can do in the world. Some missions ask you to customize vehicles in certain ways, and we have taken vehicle customization in general a lot further than we did in San Andreas.” Sarwar said.

And, weapons will be customisable too, with options that'll allow different mission tactics, as Sarwar explained,“The player has access to a wide range of modifications, such as extended clips that allow you to fire more ammo between reloads, grips to improve your accuracy, weapon tints to color your guns, flashlights, scopes, and suppressors. Attachments such as suppressors allow the player to adapt their approach to some missions and take a stealth option. It¹s all part of broadening the range of tactical options for the player.”.

Talking about actual combat, which has been influenced by GTA IV, Max Payne 3 and Read Dead Redemption, Hooker states that the combat system and controls have been reworked to make the whole experience far more fluid and enjoyable.

“A massive amount of work went into overhauling animation systems, targeting, and camerawork to really open up new opportunities for the player in the kind of freeform, open-world action shootouts that are the heart of Grand Theft Auto. We wanted shooting to feel more precise and satisfying while supporting multiple styles of play. The controls have been expanded, so now in addition to traditional left trigger "down the sights" aiming, you can also both run and shoot comfortably while only using the right trigger.”

Animation and aiming has been greatly altered to include the characters balance and momentum, and there are a selection of aiming modes, including free aim, assisted targeting and the classic GTA staple of lock-on switching.

Talking about the games use of cover, and it's benefits when controlling three separate characters, Hooker elaborated on other new features, including car cover, “In addition to smoothly running out of a car whilst firing a gun, players are able to use their car as cover, getting out and staying low without exposing themselves. They can make a stand there behind the car for a while and then at any time quickly re-enter the car from cover or from shooting and speed away with little exposure to enemy fire. It can really make the difference at crucial moments.”

The greatly improved gunplay, an area where GTA has always been lacking, and improved customisation options, represents just a small fraction of the many, hopefully great things to come from the next GTA release, and plenty more information will be coming ahead of the game's release, so stay tuned.

Grand Theft Auto V will be released on September 17 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Another well-done DevSpeak video surfaces for WildStar after over a month of silence...

Carbine Studios has finally given us something new about WildStar, my most anticipated game of the year, to share with our readers after over a month of silence and nothing new to share at this year's E3.  Carbine has blessed us with a new DevSpeak video about their Aiming mechanic, which brings a new tactic for the MMO genre.

The Aiming DevSpeak video is as well done as the previous DevSpeak videos, but this one shows us a few cool new things we haven't seen before.  For one, one of the characters looks very similar to Mortal Kombat's Raiden, which in itself is cool that players are able to do that. Secondly, there are some cool, white monkey-looking monsters to fight.

[Related: What is WildStar]

Might excitement for WildStar was at its lowest point since I first got my hands on it at PAX East, but now, thanks to Carbine's latest DevSpeak video (which you can view below), it's back to an all-time high.

The League of Legends World Championship will head to the Staples Center in October...

Dwight Howard may be leaving Los Angeles, but Riot Games will be filling his spot.  This is a mind-blowing bit of news today, as Riot Games announced that its free-to-play MOBA, League of Legends, will headline at the Staples Center in Los Angeles this October for the Season 3 World Championship.

That's right; a VIDEO GAME's championship match will be held at the premiere location for sporting events in Los Angeles, the home to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Kings. The World Championship event will take place on Friday, October 4, and the winning team will be crowned the Season 3 World Champion and will walk away with the Summoner's Cup and $1 million in cash.

The road to the finals will begin in the coming weeks, as professional teams in each region will play in qualifier events around the world.  The top 14 teams from North America, Korea, China, Southeast Asia, Europe, and an international wild-card will head to Southern California for the World playoffs.  The semi-finals will be held at the Galen Center in a single-elimination round, and the two remaining teams will advance to headline at the Staples Center for an undoubtedly epic match of League of Legends.

The Staples Center will house 10,000 attendees, which is just about half of what it houses for NBA games. This is an incredible leap forward for e-sports, as it will set a precedent for future gaming world championships.

Tickets will be going on sale soon at lolesports.com and other ticketing outlets.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag pirate gameplay trailer

NewsAaron Birch7/12/2013 at 9:21AM

A new gameplay trailer for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is here, and it's heavy on game features...

Narrated by Ashraf Ismail, Assassin's Creed 4's game director, the new trailer shows a whole host of gameplay focusing on the Jackdaw, Edward Kenway's trusty vessel, and the game's second main character.

The Jackdaw is fully upgradable, and you'll need to do so to progress through the game. To do this you'll need to locate lost treasure to find blueprints that can upgrade the ship, as shown here. This treasure is spread across the huge game world which includes 50 unique locations to explore.

You can't upgrade the Jackdaw without materials, though, and so you'll need to attack and pillage enemy ships using the enhanced naval combat system. This includes new cannons that can be aimed, more powerful ammunition, and swivel guns that can take out enemy crew before you board.

Once an enemy ship is boarded, you have several options open to capture it. Brute force, thinning out the crew with swivel guns and stealth or all possible, again it's up to you as captain. You can also free the crew to gain more sailors for the Jackdaw, and can even harvest the captured ship to repair any damage the Jackdaw has suffered.

You can also attack and take over forts, which will then work for you, attacking your enemies. This will, in turn, open up new missions. And, as you roam the world, you'll encounter all sorts of other battles, which you can choose to take advantage of in order to take over more ships. It's up to you.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will be released on November 1 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U, with Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC versions to follow.

Wait, I Thought Xbox One Wasn't Going to Sell at $499?

NewsRobert Bernstein7/12/2013 at 1:31PM

Post E3, everyone said Xbox One wasn't going to sell well and everyone would, hands down, choose PS4. But pre-orders are selling out fast...

You've probably seen the news stories all over the web this week about the first round of next-gen consoles selling out at your favorite retailers.  Gamestop has sold out, Best Buy has sold out, and the latest retailer to sell out of Xbox One pre-orders is Amazon. But the key point I'd like to talk about is the fact that it's consoleS (with an S) and not just the PlayStation 4 that is selling out.

I thought that gamers, in general, were dead set against the Xbox One after the backlash Microsoft received from its original announcement and its very middling E3?

Aside from the joy that the console was no longer called Durango, I've heard nothing but varying amounts of disdain about the Xbox One since its pre-E3 reveal.  The guys over at Gametrailers' Invisible Walls all joked that they were pre-ordering the Xbox One, with their fellow GT staffmember Annoyed Gamer Marcus Beer leading the pack (it was sarcasm).  Angry Joe, was, well, angry at Microsoft for the Xbox One reveal.  IGN's staff has also expressed their doubts numerous times.  Our very own staff also weighed in about the Xbox One, stating that they'd be buying the PS4 only (except me).

But, it isn't just the PS4 selling out, as the Xbox One is selling out also. Even though the Xbox One is $100 more, and has many other issues, gamers have still caused the day one Xbox One to sell-out.  I mean, it was no coincidence that Sony's stock went up 9% the day after the Xbox One reveal, although it is said that the jump was attributed to Sony vamping up its entertainment division (I don't believe it, though).  But, apparently, none of the backlash mattered; somebody, somewhere, is pre-ordering the Xbox One over the PS4! Who are YOU?

Was it Microsoft's reversal on Xbox One's DRM policies that has swayed the minds of gamers back to Microsoft? Possible, but unlikely the only factor. Was it the removal of the highly hated Don Mattrick? Probably not. Is it just a marketing ploy to say their sold out of Xbox Ones to drive more sales? Also unlikely, as the PS4 is selling out as well, and retailers would have no reason to focus on marketing the consoles as it is still only July. Could it be that the internet is just a great platform for angry gamers to get their frustrations out, so the hate for the Xbox One only SEEMED like it was everywhere? Highly likely.  The internet is a very large sampling, so you get gamers of all types weighing in, including the grumpy ones.

And, does selling out mean anything?  Granted, we don't know how many units Microsoft put up for pre-order, but the fact that it is selling at all is contrary to the belief that it wouldn't sell at all.

Did you pre-order the Xbox One? Comment below to tell everyone why!!

SHUT UP, go buy the PlayStation® 4 !!

LOL Fanboys. 100 dollars difference is barely any money at all. If you think it's a lot, you need to find a better job.

see, that's what I said also; It's only $100! Everyone was OUTRAGED at that opinion...like just about everyone responded with a "how dare you" or "get off your high horse mister rich" (which, I'm not, btw).

people done know launch allocations, dont know anything, no company released pre order numbers. sony nor ms has said how many will be available...so much unknown that sell out or not, its irrelevant until we know the facts...and $100 isnt alot, get a job and get both.

That's the ticket. :) Current gen, xbox RULES online, (PS3 is full of no-talkers), PS3 has great exclusives. You buy both, you get both advantages. I expect ps4 online will be much the same as ps3, and Ps4 exclusives should be good to play single player.

I think you pretty much hit it spot on with this comment. Ps4 exclusives will be great for single player.

I would buy an Xbox one over a PS 3.5 anytime anywhere.

I felt insulted by the Xbox One reveal. My stance had not changed.

I like the product plain and simple. I like Forza 5 running at 60FPS and 1080p. I like the controller. I like XBL. I like Halo. DRM or always online was never an issue with me. Licensing games, instead of owning them was not an issue either. The power disparity is also a non-issue for me also. I enjoyed Genesis over the SNES, the 360 over the PS3.
That is why X-1 is day one for me.

was it mainly the price? or was there somethign else that really just pissed you off instantly?

...PS3 sold out at $599. It's a new console, it'll sell out. What happens after the initial launch is what matters. After the initial launch of PS3, it didn't sell very well. It took some time to it to gain momentum. We'll see how well the PS4 & Xbox One sell after the initial launch.

I'm not really sure what this article is getting at, but it seems like "I told you so" article. What this article leaves about and what retailers have left out is actual numbers. For all we know Sony and MS could have only allocated 1 million unites out to the world.

These types of articles really bring out the fanboys... on both sides. I've never witnessed this sort of brand "loyalty" for any other product/brand ever. I never see Nike guys going into Addidas forums/articles commenting "Addidas sucks!""Nike is BOSS?"

Best Launch Lineup.

You sound like Sony asking people to get a second job to buy a PS3... Maybe you do have a "good" job, but quite a lot of people don't.

Even with an average job, 100 bucks is barely anything. If you can afford $400, you can afford $500. If you think that 100 bucks more is a lot, perhaps you can't even afford $400.

The price, DRM, stance on used/shared games, the pride they took in bragging about nonsense specs (what the hell do transistors even DO for a console?).

The whole thing felt like a sales pitch from a bunch of fat rich old white men who don't play video games themselves.

Not only are they out of touch with their consumer-base, but they apparently believe we are morons who will simply buy into hype. Sadly, they are somewhat correct.

I actually agree with you, just not the part where you said "find a better job." If you can barely afford the $400 console, you probably shouldn't buy it. And if you can afford the $400 then you can definitely afford a $500 console.

ps4 doesnt come with move or pseye, both are $60 dollars. so X1 is still cheaper if you want the full experience of a system

Do you play games? Then what is your stance?

Remember the ps3 hype?

I remember it being laughable, but not as directly insulting to my intelligence as this.

PS4 drones/muppets are trolls who rant/abuse/attack everyone but themselves but when it comes down to it..there buying the X1.. X1/PC are the greatest platforms to date.. and will forever be.. Microsoft owns the best gaming platforms..and asias gaming platform is sony... im going with the best.. Xbox One for the win!

Good for you...enjoy the psnot free online anymore...i hope they upgrade there online...tired of getting kicked out when im playing online on the ps3...hope the same dosnt happen with the ps4 .....Sony dosnt have TRUE gamers cause if they did they would no that xbox live is much better then ps plus....DONT respond i dont wanna here it...go cry to your dad

fanboys gotta love them lmao. me i already pre order both and i am happy

Everybody I know who still watches TV is getting the XbOne over the PS4.
Even with all the bad press, people are still attached to the Xbox name and have no problems with or even like its features and games. Most people are Forza enthusiasts that gawk over the console.

Of course the Xbox One pre-orders will sell-put before launch, so did the Wii-U.

Don't get me wrong, the Xbox One isn't going to be another Wii-U, but MS have certainly got something to think about when, in their biggest market, the PS4 sells out on day one (post E3 conference), while the Xbox One has taken another month.

Microsoft had a year head start, large price advantage, superior online, better first/third party support, and in turn totally dominated the US. Despite this, coming to the end of the generation, the PS3 is now the best seller worldwide and gained considerable traction in the US market. This coming generation those advantages have been turned on their head

Reality is the Xbox One has no chance in the Japanese market, Europe has always been Playstation territory, but most concerning for Microsoft, the PS4 is outslling by some margin the Xbox One in their to strongest markets, the US and UK.

When did I say anything about Sony or PS4?

Why are you trolling posts if you don't wan't to see the reply?

CRAI MOAR, faceless guest account reactionary Xbox tool.

You cannot compare PS3 online to PS4, the machines have been designed a decade apart, the world has changed, online and social features are have been built into the hardware.

The share button, instant download/play feature, Gaikai, PS+, practically every aspect of the machine is different from an online perspective.

Price difference is absolutely critical to the success of a video game console.

People seem to forget, PS2 dominated worldwide, the price of the PS3, relative to 360, was crucial in letting the 360 gain market share, which in turn led to 3rd party parity, people buying the same console as their friends etc.

Price is not as crucial for early adopters, particularly at launch, but massively important when we are 6 months into the next gen.

Of course people still watch TV, problem is, they do it with on-demand services like BBC iplayer and Sky Go. The idea of the family sitting around one main TV is an increasingly outdated concept.

We all want personnalised content, on-demand, on multiple devices.

Not to mention, most of the TV feature won't even work outside the US at launch, everyone has different TV providers, with different rights, many regions will never have an equivalent service to the US Xbox One line-up.

I wouldn't say I told you so, it's more like SONY FANBOYS STFU AND GTFO!

YOU PREORDERD YOUR PoS4, WHOOPTY FUCKING DO! MOVE THE FUCK ON FOR i PISS ON YOU ALL!

Very true! All these gamer with money issues. I spend my money wisely even with income and don't see how i can't afford 100 dollar extra.

the new DS4 controller acts like a move controller now. If, IF the new camera acts like a Kinect then there would be no reason for a move controller, right?

A lot of people still don't like "motion" games, are they not getting the "full experience" then? If these people didn't want the "motion" experience then just getting a PS4 alone would be a "full experience" to them, maybe not for you but for them that's enough.

I'm not saying it's right, but the Sony is going with a "if you want it, you can buy it" approach.

hahahahaha...

they may have sold more ps3 but if u look at the actually numbers it's practically a tie, but what u people fail to realize is sony didn't start making money off the ps3 until the second slim came out. They lost money on every console sold until then, oppsed to the 360 which has been profittable since the red ring fiascal so u tell me who really won this gen because last time i checked it wasn't microsoft hurting for money it is sony and they dug there self another hole undercutting the xb1 with a hundred dollar price cut, to make it look like they actually care about the gamer...

Yea, new hardware will always sell out - Wii U is especially an exception XDDD

X1 and PS4 will sell out but PS4 will remain Sold out for a LONGER period of time, it will definitely be hard to pick up a PS4 and especially since any Christmas Shoppers likely won't even see any PS4's on shelf during the Holidays so, Wii U might actually get a break if X1 also keeps pre-order strength.

However, Globally? PS4 will outsell X1 in total units moved out, Sony has prepared and is mass-producing PS4's every month since May all the way up to launch whether that be Oct, Nov or Dec. What is easily confirmed though is that Sony plans to launch before X1 and Sony is deliberately waiting for Microsoft to make the first move so Sony can then make their release date Before them, making a strong Stale or Checkmate. (I say Confirmed because Yoshida HEAVILY implied this in a twitter response in a hilarious way).

I pre-ordered my PS4 shortly after E3 when PS4's were rapidly dwindling so I hope I'm able to still get mine at launch or at least a week or two after launch X_X

So, you typical taunt people with your urinary habits?

I pre ordered the Xbox one because Microsoft has more money they will have the last say when it is all said and done because it is all about the money people. Fan boys can stop any day now . It all comes down to money and Microsoft has more therefore they will spend more and own yet again because of the money they can through around for improvements updates and of course future technology .

throw around

got carried away lol

Well if the other rumers are true and Microsoft is planning on uping their spec. Then they don't have a whole lot of time do they? Stocks would be way limited. The Xbox one as some good things going for it. Early dlc's for example. Dvr. Its gunna be a good entertainment system. But as it sits right now, I can't afford both. And I'm a gamer. Everthing I do entertainment wise is cacapable on my ps3. So I'm going with the better overall gaming performance that comes from a company that didn't try to rape me right in front of my eyes. I'm tired of the arguments and the trash talk. Untill we play them both. You don't know who's better.

Poor pauper is you. Suck it N4Gtard!

when it comes down to it i like a certain type of game and with a certain controller so
yeah i'm getting the One console that gives me these things

Buy both you get all the advantages

Well first of all the whole 100.00 more crap is hilarious. That was never going to stop anyone from buying it. The Internet was making it look like it was 1000.00 more then the ps4, not 100.00. My wife and I could go out to eat tonight and spend 100.00. I think for the price they are offering alot of value and innovation. We're as Sony has always done the same thing since the original ps1. Which is better specs but nothing new. If i had a ps3 now, what would I be gaining by moving up to the ps4 besides better specs??

Top 5 Mobile Games of the Week (July 5 – July 11)

We make vegetable soup out of some zombies, and unleash some volatile turds on the people below…

I was certainly another weird week around Den of Geek’s mobile gaming department, as most of the notable new releases we played had to do with things like spraying water on a giant purple octopus whose mouth was overflowing with fire, massacring a legion of zombies who look suspiciously like those green things you’d see in the vegetable aisle, and yes, even dropping some goopy white bird turds on the unsuspecting civilians below. But however weird or not you might think these games are, there’s still no denying that they’re all pretty darn awesome in their own respective right. So get ready to tilt you head in confusion, because here are Den of Geek’s Top 5 picks in mobile gaming for the week of July 5 – July 11:

5. Turd Birds

Developer: 2K Play | Platform: Android and iOS | Price: $Free

I've seen some pretty ridiculous ideas for endless runners in my day, but I think that Turd Birds by 2K games easily takes the cake, or I guess in this instance, the urinal cake. The game plays out exactly as it sounds: you take control of a big white bird (I think it's a seagull), and as you run and fly along down each environment, you're tasked with dropping big goopy white turds on anyone and anything that happens to be passing by underneath you for some extra bonus points. I know, I can't believe this is a game either, let alone one from a pretty well-established and big-name publisher. The first thing you'll notice about this one, is that the title of the game itself is even censored on the iOS App Store, with the name simply appearing as the mysterious and tantalizingly alluring T**d Birds. I guess Apple just doesn't play nice with turds and everything they stand for. But the game actually has some pretty nice looking graphics to it, all things considering, with some especially nice detail and visual shine given to the turds themselves. I'm sorry, I know that was gross, but I just had to say it. Now let’s get to pooping!

4. Sprinkle Islands

Developer: Mediocre AB | Platform: Android and iOS | Price: $1.99

I feel like the Sprinkle franchise from Mediocre AB has consistently been one of those cutesy physics-based puzzle games that always WANTED to join the ranks of Angry Birds and Where’s My Water?, but somehow just never quite made it there. Hopefully, the new sequel released this week, Sprinkle Islands, can see the Sprinkle name splashing to bigger and better heights. Like its predecessor, Sprinkle Islands finds you taking control of a little blue alien firefighter named Ouie, as he’s tasked with putting out all the fires around him with his trusty fire truck and water hose. The sequel also takes place on one of Saturn’s moons, Titan to be exact, and as it turns out, even things like distant moons can have sunny, luxurious beaches, and a giant purple octopus that spits flames out of its mouth. What’s cool about this game, though, is that Ouie’s fire truck will actually move along down the level after all of the on-screen fires are put out, so it sort of gives Sprinkle Islands the illusion of having a progressive sidescrolling element, which not only sounds cool on paper, but proves to be pretty cool too in execution, just like a big old bucket of ice water.

Download Sprinkle Islands on the iOS App Store | Download Sprinkle Islands on the Google Play Marketplace

3. Bloody Harry

Developer: FDG Entertainment | Platform: iOS | Price: $0.99

Remember when you were a kid, and you would have given just about ANYTHING not to finish all of your vegetables before you had dessert? I sure know I do. But as it turns out, there are some kids who actually like eating vegetables, and those kids eventually grow up into ADULTS who like eating vegetables. Bloody Harry, the eponymous star of his own sidescrolling action game, is a ruthless chef who just so happens to be one of these adults who have a soft spot for vegetables. In fact, the official App Store description page tells us that Bloody Harry is quite “bloody serious about his organic food recipes.” When the world is taken over by legions of freaky vegetable zombies, it’s up to Bloody Harry to wander around and brutally massacre them with all sorts of lethal weapons, and then I guess make some fancy entrees with their bloody and steaming vegetable-y remains. It’s a pretty fun and funny premise, but even without it, the excellent gameplay and smooth cartoony animations would more than allow for this game to stand on its own. 2. Deus Ex: The Fall

Developer: Square Enix | Platform: iOS | Price: $6.99

I’ve talked a bit over the last few weeks about how great it is to see more and more console worthy titles coming to smartphones and tablets. First there was XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and now we have Deus Ex: The Fall, a franchise that should sound familiar to you around this neck of the gaming woods. In this brand new mobile adventure set in the Deus Ex universe, players will take control of former British SAS Mercenary Ben Saxon, as he desperately tries to uncover the truth behind a global conspiracy that threatens his life. Like its big brother console brethren, The Fall also gives players the option of stealthily making their way through the game, or in my case, just rushing in with guns blazing. Of course, considering the amount of graphical power in this beast of a mobile game, it should also be noted that Deus Ex: The Fall will only run on higher-end iDevices (think iPad 3 and above), and that you’ll need a whopping 1.6GB of free space just to install the sucker. But if you’ve got the goods, and the free space to get it all on there, then you really won’t find a finer console experience on a mobile device than this.

1. Tiny Thief

Developer: 5 Ants and Rovio Stars | Platform: Android and iOS | Price: $2.99

Rovio Stars, the new off-branch publisher of Rovio has already made quite the name for themselves after bringing their first game, Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage, up from the frozen depths and onto the App Store last month. But their second published game, and the first developed by 5 Ants, might just go down as one of the greatest mobile games ever invented. One part point-and-click adventure, and one part stealth and reminiscent of the Thief series, Tiny Thief brings one of the most unique and satisfying mobile experiences I've ever had the pleasure to encounter, and it's all brought to life in the sharp and stylized cartoony graphics that one would only expect from an Angry Birds game. The game is absolutely perfect for the mobile screen, with incredibly bright and detailed environments, tons of quirky details to find and tap on in each, and just the right amount of challenge and progression to take you through the game's several episodes of thievery and Robin Hood-esque swindling. The amount of tender, love, and care in Tiny Thief is readily apparent from the moment you first load up the app, and besides all of that, the game is just an absolute joy to play and behold, and it will set the bar high for all future mobile releases down the road.

The Plea for Street Fighter V

NewsRobert Bernstein7/14/2013 at 1:23PM

It has been 4 years since Street Fighter IV first hit the gaming scene and we're still only getting SFIV updates, not a Street Fighter V...

Street Fighter IV first hit the arcades in July 2008, and then took over the fighting game genre when it hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in February 2009 and PC in July 2009. Here we are, 4 years later, and Capcom has announced... a Street Fighter IV UPDATE. What?!? Oh, and it comes out sometime in 2014. WHAT?!? Where is Street Fighter V?

It appears as though Capcom just wants to milk gamers dry the easiest way possible: by releasing DLC after DLC after DLC. Oh, curse you wretched DLC, for you are widely abused by many game developers. Capcom hasn't called the new update DLC officially, but a rose by any other name smells as sweet, doesn't it? You can't fool us, Capcom; 5 new fighters and 6 new stages is just DLC. You're not updating the gameplay mechanics. You're not updating the game engine. You're not upgrading the graphics. You're only giving us ONE brand new character. You're releasing DLC.

Now, the next generation of consoles are upon us, and gamers are looking for a next gen Street Fighter game. But, Capcom is focusing their resources on a measly content update for Street Fighter IV. We want Street Fighter V, not Super Street Fighter IV Turbo Arcade Championship Edition. We want MANY new characters to be introduced to the franchise, not just one, as the 2014 DLC will apparently contain. We want all new stages, not six.

And, to top things off, the four known characters Capcom is releasing aren't very interesting, to me at least. Rolento was strong, but his character was boring and unoriginal (of course he was taken from Final Fight, but that's not what I mean). Elena has a cult following, and I'm not one of the members. Then there's Hugo, who was also taken from Final Fight. He's the wrestlers of all wrestlers, but I can't play with him effectively if my life depended on it (i'm more about the quick fighting style). And, finally, there's Poison: Hugo's sexy manager that used to fight on the streets for Final Fight. So, 3 Final Fight characters and Elena. I don't think you're getting my $15, Capcom.

Personally, I would like to see Garuda return to the franchise. Capcom can also do a lot of fun things with an update for Hayate. Q would also get my $15. But, even with any of those additions, I'd still much prefer a completely new Street Fighter.

Street Fighter, as the series stands now, is just as popular, if not more popular, than it was during the Street Fighter II days, so it's not like the interest isn't there for a Street Fighter V. The gap between Street Fighter III and Street Fighter IV was almost 9 years. Hopefully, Capcom won't make us wait until 2017 for a Street Fighter V. Please, Capcom, give us Street Fighter V before 2017.

NetherRealm and DC will add Martian Manhunter as the 5th DLC to 'Injustice: Gods Among Us'...

NetherRealm Studios and DC Comics will bring another DLC character to Injustice: Gods Among Us.  This time, it will be Martian Manhunter as the added playable character.

Looks like he's fully equipped with an Ares-esque morphing (I'm going to use the HELL out of that!), and some stretchy arms.  This looks like one DLC character I'm definitely going to buy on day one.

Check out the first official gameplay trailer for Martian Manhunter, and fully expect DC to release a History of Martian Manhunter video soon.

Four past Street Fighters and 1 mystery character will be added to the game, plus 6

Capcom announced today during their Evo 2013 panel that the highly acclaimed Street Fighter IV will get a new version that'll be hitting stores in early 2014, and have titled it Ultra Street Fighter 4.

There isn't a specific timeframe or date window announced, but Capcom did give us a few more details.  The new game, which is yet to be titled, will add Poison, Hugo, Rolento, Elena, and one mystery character that the Street Fighter franchise has never seen before.  Six new stages will also be added into the mix.

Gamers can choose to upgrade their existing version of Street Fighter IV to with the new content by purchasing DLC for $14.99, or buy a total package via retail for $39.99.  The game will be available for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Mad Max's first trailer has arrived, and it's named 'Soul of a Man'. And it looks incredible...

All hope is lost and only the truly savage survive in the wastland that Avalanche Studios (and Warner Bros.) has created for the upcoming Mad Max video game.  Today, WB Games released the first trailer for the highly anticipated game, titling it 'Soul of a Man.'

Mad Max appears as though it might be more of a cinematic, story-driven experience than expected.  Regardless, it looks like the Swedish Avalanche Studios has done it justice.

Mad Max is set to launch sometime in 2014 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.  More details about Mad Max as they come to light, but until then, check out the incredible new gameplay trailer, below.

Pre-order WWE 2k14 and get a playable Ultimate Warrior...

Pre-order the upcoming installment of video game wrestling, WWE 2k14, and you'll get WWE Legend Ultimate Warrior as a bonus.

While the news may seem exciting, the trailer for it is not.  The trailer shows the entrance for Ultimate Warrior, and it looks like it was taken straight from Legends of Wrestlemania.  The graphics are lackluster and have me a little concerned about how much of the game 2k is actually responsible for, and how much was actually done by Yuke's before 2k picked up the license during the THQ sale.

Anyway, check out the trailer, which is complete with Ultimate Warrior himself (and his snort).

WWE 2k14 will hit on October 29 later this year for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Xbox One to reintroduce family sharing?

NewsAaron Birch7/16/2013 at 8:59AM

Microsoft could reverse its own reversal, and is looking into the possibilities of restating family sharing on Xbox One...

One of the downsides to Microsoft's colossal 180 degree turn on it's DRM and game trading policies was the loss of one feature many found to be very interesting, the family game sharing.

Previously, before the changes in policy, this system would have made it possible for Xbox One owners to share their purchased games with members of their own family. Up to ten specified family members would be able to share their games digitally. No further details were really specified before the feature was removed, so it's not known exactly how this would have worked.

However, talking to IGN, the chief product officer for Xbox One, Marc Whitten, has said that Microsoft hasn't entirely abandoned the family sharing feature, and it could return at a later ate if demand for it is high enough.

When asked about the family sharing feature, the return of which was recently demanded via a fan petition, Marc responded, “If it’s something that people are really excited about and want, we’re going to make sure that we find the right way to bring it back.”. He continued, “We believe really strongly in how you build a great experience on Xbox One for me as an individual, but also for my family. Family Sharing is a great example of how you do that with content.”

Whitten also acknowledged Microsoft's failure in accurately demonstrating and communicating the Xbox One's features. “I think it’s pretty simple. We’ve got to just talk more, get people understanding what our system is,” he said. “The thing that’s really gratifying is that people are excited about the types of features that are possible, and It’s sort of shame on us that we haven’t done as good of a job as we can to make people feel like that’s where we’re headed.”

It's definitely a good move by Microsoft to adhere to fan demands, as let's face it, the Xbox One badly needs some fan love at the moment. If the good parts of the initial policy plan can be spliced back in whilst retaining the freedom people want with their console's other features, the Xbox One could win back some ground.

I loved the idea of the sharing plan. In reality they wouldn't lose all that much money if I still want to play games with my friends I still have to purchase it..but sharing sounds awesome for single player games.

I am also fairly certain I am the only person who reads and comments on the .us website...I miss the arguing with my U.K brethren

We get a LOT of comments, it just depends on the article. Some resonate more than others.
Especially gaming articles... we get more comments on editorial than we do on basic news posts.

Microsoft: Xbox One Games Playable During Installation

It looks like you won't have to wait for the full game to install to play...

Microsoft has revealed that the Xbox One won't require full game installs to begin playing, but rather a mere fraction of the game.

"Consumers will be able to sign on to any Xbox One console and have access to all their digital games. Once the required data--a fraction of the entire game-- is on their hard drive, they can jump into the action while the rest of the game finishes downloading in the background," Microsoft stated in an interview with Engadget.

This means that you won't have to wait for all of your digital games to load if you want to play a game on your profile at a friend's house using their Xbox One, but can begin playing after only installing a small portion of the game.

Of course, don't expect to play any multiplayer while the rest of your digital game is downloading and installing.

The Official Facepalm Games of 2013 So Far List

NewsRobert Bernstein7/16/2013 at 9:49PM

2013 is halfway gone, so we take a look at the games released so far and pick out the ones that REALLY make you facepalm...

There's nothing worse than spending $60 on a brand new video game release and bringing it home only to find out that it is really a stinker. If it was the only game you were looking forward to all month, it can ruin your entire month.  So, we're half of the way through this year, and we've certainly seen some great games already.  Crysis 3Metro: Last Lightand The Last of Us, to name a few, were well worth the price tag and lived up to, if not exceeded, their potential.  But, like we've had a lot of great games so far, we've had a lot of bad ones as well.  Here are the official facepalm games list of 2013 so far; games that are so bad you just have to facepalm.  (Note: this list will be updated as new facepalm games are released).

Fast & Furious: Showdown

There's no denying that the Fast & Furious franchise had video game potential, but that potential wasn't tapped for Fast & Furious: Showdown. Developers Firebrand Games is hopefully ashamed of themselves. The driving physics were way off, and the tracks were all unimaginative. Missions were either super easy or insanely difficult. And, most importantly, I found driving at almost 200mph not as thrilling as it should have been. Fast & Furious: Showdown also crashed and burned by having only 3 hours worth of content and selling it for $40, which in my book is just completely unacceptable. If you don't consider this one of the worst games of the year, then there's something seriously wrong with you. Seriously.

Star Trek: The Game

The most appalling aspect of this Star Trek game is how bad it looks for the time it was released in. The animations are clunky, and cutscenes were sloppy. Environments were lackluster in detail, and the guns all looked similar. The gameplay was flat, and was infested with bugs that I wish would just break the game, but never did. This is one Star Trek voyage to avoid, and is a perfect example of just how bad licensed games can be.

Dead Island: Riptide

When first picking up Dead Island: Riptide, I thought for sure that this would be THE zombie game. The original Dead Island was good, but its many issues held it back from greatness. I thought that Dead Island: Riptide would address all of its predecessor's issues, but instead, none of the issues were fixed. Screen tearing is just as rampant in Riptide as it was in the first game, and the island just doesn't look right. Riptide didn't bring anything new to the table, and if you've played the first one, there's really no reason to pick up this second one. It isn't a terrible game like everything else on this list, but the fact that its problems weren't corrected and it didn't introduce any new elements made it one of this year's most disappointing titles so far.

Aliens: Colonial Marines

We were all looking forward to a new game based on Ridley Scott's beloved Alien franchise, but our excitement quickly turned to embarrassment for Gearbox, the team behind Aliens: Colonial MarinesWith incredibly bad graphics filled with square polygons and dull textures, the game felt uninspired. A game that was in development for 7 years should have certainly had more polish. Gameplay was as basic as it gets, and brought nothing new to the FPS genre. The only thing the game did correctly was in the marketing department, as all of the trailers made the game look like a generally fantastic experience. Unfortunately, that couldn't be further from the truth. I'm not sure how SEGA could let a game like this hit store shelves, but it will forever remain a thorn in their side.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2

For a game that used the same game engine as Crysis 3Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is another game that had such potential but couldn't come close to getting it right. The game should've been open world— it wasn't. The game should've been challenging—it wasn't. The game should've had variation in the sniper rifles offered—it didn't. Multiplayer had only one game mode, and two maps, and it was basically a campfest between snipers. If that doesn't sound like a good time to you, well then you're right; it wasn't. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 was ordinary on all fronts, and it really didn't have any point to its existence.

Deadpool

Marvel's Deadpool made his solo game debut in June, and it was a major flop. Quirky writing aside, Deadpool failed to provide any uniqueness, and didn't feel like a Deadpool game should. For a hero that regenerates and is immortal, the potential for over-the-top crazy sh*t to happen was never tapped into. Aside from being impaled with a big stick of metal (which isn't original to begin with), nothing cool happens. Voice acting was good, but Nolan North was the only standout for this game. Environments were colorless and drab, and the gameplay was stale and felt uninspired, which is the complete opposite feeling you get when reading the latest Deadpool comic from Posehn and Duggan.

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct not only makes this year's facepalm list, but it also likely makes it onto the top ten worst video games of all time list. This game is a shameless cash-grab starring fan favorite Daryl Dixon and brother Merle, and it is unfortunate that Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker tied their names to this hunk of sh*t. The graphics look like they were taken from PlayStation 2, and if the terrible-looking environments aren't enough to keep you away, then you should check out how lifeless the cars on the side of the road look. Zombies all look the same, and they never feel like the threat that they are in The Walking Dead television show. Even for a bargain-bin game, it isn't worth your hard-earned cash. Hell, even as a free game it isn't worth your time. I DARE you to find a game more disappointing than The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.

What do YOU think is the worst game of 2013 so far? Did it make our list? Sound off in the comments below!

GTA V Faster Than Its Predecessors

Grand Theft Auto V won't hold back, and it'll provide epic thrills right from the off...

In an interview with French gaming site, Jeuxactu (via OXM), Rockstar North's president, Leslie Benzies has revealed that GTA V, unlike its forerunners, won't spoon feed you with slower-paced, getting to know you missions. Instead, it'll provide frantic action from the get go.

When comparing the game's opening hours to the previous GTA releases, Benzies said, "I think it was the right strategy for stories we wanted to tell at the time, but not this time. Today, we want to surprise people with very intense missions from the start. The pace of the game is much faster than any of its predecessors.

"From the beginning, we want to show off the new game mechanics while creating intense, action-packed gameplay, to capture the player's attention immediately. Remember that the three characters in the game are already living in the city of Los Santos and surrounding areas. They are not newcomers like Niko and Tommy Vercetti, or people returning after a long absence like CJ.”

This will no doubt please critics of GTA IV, who thought the game was far too slow. This lead to many players missing out on some of the excellent content later on. Hopefully this won't be a problem with the fifth, main entry in the series.

Benzies also confirmed that the three protagonists of the game, Michael, Trevor and Franklin won't be playable right away.

“We want to give the player the opportunity to get to know the three characters individually, and explore the world as each of them, and it would not have been possible if all three had been available from the start.” He said.

Interestingly, Benzies also said that San Andreas was initially slated to feature multiple characters (no surprise given the huge roster of allies, gang bangers and other main characters), but this was abandoned due to technical limitations. It's a feature that GTA V simply can't do without in order to cram in all the mechanics Rockstar has planned.

Grand Theft Auto V will be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17.

League of Legends-based 2D Fighter Gets Ok'd By Riot Games

'League of Fighters' will be heading to PC...

There's a group of League of Legends fans that set out to create a 2D fighting video game based on the game.  Now, Riot Games, owners of the League of Legends license, has given the okay for the group to create what they're calling League of Fighters.

Instaburst, as the group has named their development company, will bring classic moves from the MOBA to their 2D fighting title, as shown in their first trailer for the game, below.

Instaburst promises it will be Free to Play (they can't profit from the game), and also state that the game will have a single player mode, and local and online multiplayer.

This is a very exciting project, and I can't wait to get my hands on League of Fighters.  I love League of Legends, and I sure as hell love 2D fighters, so hopefully a wedding between the two will be magical.  I also love how the folks at Instaburst have been secretly developing the game, and THEN got Riot Games' approval.  Great job, Instaburst!
