Some video game characters are iconic, but others simply are video games. Hyrulian fairy boy Hero of Time and Waker of Winds, Link, is the latter. And watching him be unleashed upon unsuspecting legions of foolhardy enemies in the latest trailer for Hyrulian Warriors is a joy to behold.
Not often does Nintendo allow their most treasured mascot characters stray from the wonderful world of The Legend of Zelda and into such radically different environments. But in this new game, Nintendo and Tecmo Koei is a dizzying departure worth savoring. A combination of the classic Zelda series and Tecmo Koei’s Dynasty Warrior franchise, the game is developed by Omega Force and Team Ninja to offer the ultimate escapism of bashing Ganondorf troops’ heads in with an unending hack-and-slash combination of attacks. Who needs ocarinas, anyway?
Hyrule Warriors unsheathes its blade for the Wii U on September 26 in the U.S. European gamers will be getting it early on September 19.
