This eye-opening trailer shows off the eighth kombatant as Kano demonstrates his three fighting styles. See what I did there?
The roster of Mortal Kombat Xbecomes a bit more uncovered as Netherrealm Studios has released a video of the eighth character. With four newbies (D'Vorah, Ferra/Torr, Cassie Cage, and Kotal Kahn) and three veterans (Raiden, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero), things are evened out with the announcement of Kano joining the fray.
Kano has been around since the very first Mortal Kombat and has been a regular across the series, appearing in most games and even being the final boss in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces. In Mortal Kombat 9, a time-travel reboot that rewrote the events of the first three games, Kano was one of the handful of characters to survive to the nigh-apocalyptic storyline.
Due to the time span of the new game, Kano's a bit aged. He's also been upgraded with more robotic parts, presumably by the unnamed "cyberneticist" who originally gave him his eye (said doctor appears in Kabal's ending in Mortal Kombat 9). The most notable change in his appearance is a laser replacement heart, once a hallmark of the obscure fighter Hsu Hao from Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.
Like all the other characters, Kano has three fighting styles to select. "Cutthroat" is based on him leaning on his knife-fighting skills. With "Cybernetic," Kano relies on his kickass eye laser as well as grenade-based attacks. Then there's "Commando," where he foregoes the weapons and enhancements to instead focus on grappling and countering.
Check out the trailer for some footage of his gameplay, narrated by creator Ed Boon. At the end, you get a sneak peak at one of his Fatalities.
While we're at it, here are some screens of Kano going to town on his enemies. Dig how he's got a mood ring gimmick going with his different fighting styles.
