Telltale's Game of Thrones game reveals new potential title and storyline possibilities with new image.

When Telltale revealed that they were making a Game of Thrones game, it was as exciting as a Westerosi wedding. This is especially true since George R.R. Martin’s universe is big enough to build a dozen MMORPGs around while still never venturing near the book series HBO show’s main plotline.

So, what exactly Telltale’s Game of Thrones interactive game would entail has remained a mystery until now. Released earlier today, the below image includes a quote from A Dance with Dragons—“Trappers and hunters sworn to Deepwood with clan names like Forrester and Woods. Branch and Bole.”—as well as the possible title for the first entry in the episodic series: “Iron From Ice.”

So, with some ample spoiling of a storyline likely to appear in Game of Thrones’ season five, and which figured heavily in A Dance with Dragons, below is our speculation about what the title might mean. Again, there are spoilers down below.

While the Forrester family has never been personified by a major character in any of the ponderous five volume entries of “A Song of Ice and Fire,” the selection of the quote from A Dance with Dragons and the prominence of the words “iron” and “ice” gives us a decent clue about roughly what events this game should cover.

In A Dance with Dragons, the Iron Born led by Asha Greyjoy of the Iron Islands, and of the divisive Greyjoy family of Pyke in particular, have taken hold of Deepwood Motte.

Unfortunately for Asha, the Iron Born are rather terrible at keeping castles they have conquered, and she is soon overrun by Northerners and Stannis Baratheon’s men. Stannis is trying to unify the North behind his claim of the Iron Throne. Unfortunately, Stannis is still viewed as a two-time loser by Northerners who are sick of war after the Young Wolf (Robb Stark) died along with most of his host at the Twins. Indeed, the Freys and complicit Lannisters hold many Northern husbands, fathers, and sons hostage, so that the North will keep a knee bent to Tommen “Baratheon.” Thus Stannis will have to fight the puppet replacement of the Starks, the Boltons of the Dreadfort, which have taken up home in the ruins of Winterfell. There, Ramsay Bolton has married a fake Arya Stark (really she is one of Sansa Stark’s old childhood friends made up to look like Arya), and the Boltons have declared themselves Wardens of the North.

With the help of scouts that include a Forrester, assigned by Lady Glover of Deepwood Motte, Stannis Baratheon marches to battle on Winterfell for the last third of A Dance with Dragons, which has an unresolved conclusion after Stannis’ men get delayed for a month in a snow storm of ice that leaves them unable to reach Winterfell as winter truly comes. Ramsay and his men eventually rides out to meet Stannis in the snow, but the results of the battle will not truly be known until the sixth book, The Winds of Winter (though Ramsay claims victory in a circumspect letter to Jon Snow).

Given the importance of the Iron Born in this subplot, which includes Asha Greyjoy, who is a recurring POV character as Stannis’ hostage/guest, it seems likely that the Telltale Game of Thrones title will explore this storyline more fully. Of course, if it is strictly based on the HBO series Game of Thrones, and not “A Song of Ice and Fire,” Asha will probably be known as Yara.
