You’ve probably heard before that the Souls series is difficult, but here’s some hilarious and brutally honest commentary as to why.
The newest addition to the sidesplitting Honest Game Trailers series has just arrived, and this time it’s setting its sights on From Software’s Dark Souls and the grim and devastating world that surrounds the action-RPG franchise. The latest Honest Game Trailer covers all three entries in the notoriously difficult Soulsseries: Demon’s Souls, or “the hipster one people pretend they’ve played;” Dark Souls, or “the flawed masterpiece;” and this year’s Dark Souls II, or “the one where it’s pretty clear they ran out of ideas.”
Now I’m as big a fan of Dark Souls as anyone, but you’re still going to need a good sense of humor to watch the beloved series get lampooned like this, because if I’m being honest, every piece of commentary in the video is pretty spot-on. And the trailer doesn’t stop at those amusing game descriptions, either. It soon starts dissecting the different types of “play styles” that are typically found in the Soulsseries, including “a fat tank who’s too slow to dodge anything; a speedy rogue who’s too weak to block anything; or unlock the game’s hidden easy mode as a magic user who cheeses spells from a distance.”
Dark Souls II just wrapped up the last of its Lost Crowns Trilogy DLC last month, and now gamers are anxiously awaiting the release of From Software’s next project, the ambitious PS4 exclusive Bloodborne, which is slated for release in early February of next year.
