Imagine if Scorpion was the star of Super Mario World. What would happen? Um, death. So much of it. Always. Blood everywhere.
We ran this back in September, and we loved it so much that we're bringing it back to celebrate the release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. In case you didn't know, Mortal Kombat was one of the reasons Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Smash Bros. series, decided work on his game-changing fighting game for Nintendo. You can learn all about the birth of Super Smash Bros. in our very special retrospective.
In 2012, a YouTuber called NicksplosionFX created a ridiculous crossover between Super Mario Bros. and Mortal Kombat, where Scorpion traverses the treacherous Mushroom Kingdom in Level 1-1 and does some serious work on the old goombas. Now the same person has created a new crossover video, this time bringing the Mortal Kombat fighters to the colorful and happy land of Super Mario World.
The new video is even better than the first, and by “better,” I mean bloodier. Like, a lot bloodier, as in meaty chunks of purple Rex enemies splattering all across the screen. This is largely in thanks to playable character Shang Tsung, whose transforming abilities effectively let a large part of the Mortal Kombat roster get in on the violent slaying action. One thing’s for sure after watching this video: I don’t think I’ll ever look at Super Mario World the same again!
You can watch the hilariously bloody Super Mario World and Mortal Kombat mashup video embedded right within this page, as well as NicksplosionFX’s earlier video featuring Super Mario Bros. I think this is the Mariogame that we’ve all been destined to play for years now. Nintendo, let’s make this really happen!
