Check out the first images from Batman: Arkham Knight, a new prequel comic book series to the upcoming video game!

As it seems to be his modus operandi these days, at least in mediums different from comics, Batman is coming to an end again—this time in video game form with Batman: Arkham Knight, the trilogy closer to the Rocksteady video game series (Rocksteady did not develop Batman: Arkham Origins, which likely will continue in some form for years to come).

As such, there is a lot of ground to cover before this Batman capper, and Rocksteady is teaming with DC Comics to make it happen. As revealed via EW, Batman: Arkham Knight will be written by Batman and Robin’s Peter J. Tomasi with art by Viktor Bogdanovic, and Art Thibert. The covers will also designed by Dan Panosian.

The comic will pick up the story directly following the events of Batman: Arkham City with the Joker dead, and the prison (as well as Mayor Sharpe’s reputation) in ruins. Bruce Wayne, rather inexplicably while in the shadow Rocksteady’s Gotham City (another Anton Furstian hellscape), has begun considering retirement from the cape and cowl when trouble begins to stir with the emergence of the Arkham Knight.

Yes, as you can see in the original art released to EW, Gotham has yet another knight not named Wayne or Dent. An original character for the video game series, I still tend to suspect that his pointy-eared gun toting persona suggests Jean-Paul Valley, aka that other Batman from the “Knightfall” saga who assumed the mantle with much violence and metallic glee following Bane’s breaking of the Bat.

Arkham Knight #1 will be available on February 24, 2015.
