In a major deal struck this morning, Time Warner customers will be able to watch their content via Xbox Live on the Xbox 360.
The deal will bring 300 channels to Xbox via an app, and will launch later this summer. Channels include favorites such as AMC, Comedy Central, CNN, Food Network, and Cartoon Network. An Xbox Live Gold membership, as well as a Time Warner login, will obviously be required to access the content.
“TWC TV is a significant addition to Xbox 360, bringing our customers their favorite entertainment in one place—enhanced TV experience, games, movies, music, sports and entertainment apps,” said Blair Westlake, corporate vice president, Media & Entertainment Group at Microsoft. “Our partnership with TWC enhances all that is available on Xbox 360 today, which will we continue expand. We’re thrilled to offer TWC TV to U.S. Xbox Live members and Time Warner Cable subscribers.”
This is the kind of major deal Microsoft needs to be striking for their upcoming Xbox One. While it doesn't include all of the possible channels Time Warner offers, for those that only have a basic cable package, this is one less cable (and cable box) for them to use.
