Looking for a shooter that takes you right back to the days of Quake? Then you should probably check out Strafe...
NewsDo you miss the low-poly days of Quake? A simpler time when the bullets were slow, the enemies dim and the action tough and deliciously frenzied? Then you should definitely check out the Kickstarter for Strafe, a retro FPS its developer calls "the goriest shooter of 1996."
Taking place in a chunky sci-fi world straight out of mid-90s id Software, Strafe wears its old-school heart on its sleeve. It will, however, come with a number of mod-cons, including Oculus Rift support and the kind of gore and gibs we could only dream about 20-or-so years ago - when you splatter an enemy all over the game map, the mess stays there.
No recharging health or cover here, either - as indie dev Pixel Titans puts it, "Your only hope is to learn the unique behaviours and weakness of each enemy, shoot and strafe."
Strafe is currently about a third of the way towards acquiring its $185,000 funding target, with 20 days to go. A look at the gameplay footage below may just convince you to back Strafe yourself.
If its Kickstarter phase is a success, Strafe's scheduled for release in June 2016.
