Sega's hugely popular beat 'em up, Streets Of Rage 2, could be returning in 3D form according to a recent age rating down under...

The Streets Of Rage series is one of the most beloved of Sega's in-house titles, and one of the best examples of how good games could be on the Sega Mega Drive. It was undoubtedly Sega's answer to the Super Nintendo's excellent port of Final Fight, and until the MD got its own version, Street Fighter 2 (before Eternal Champions came along, anyway).

The series reached its pinnacle with the second outing of the series, which improved upon the already excellent original in every way, with bigger, more impressive sprites, more characters, levels, and some of the best 16-bit music ever committed to cartridge. It was simply stunning, and it looks like the classic brawler may be returning.

According to the Australian Government Classification Board's website (found via NeoGAF), '3D Streets Of Rage'has been given a PG rating, with the date of the classification being February 11, 2015. The publisher is listed as Sega, and the applicant Sega Europe Ltd. It's obviously categorised under Computer Games.

That's all the information we know at this time, and Sega has yet to comment on the title, but it would appear as though Axel, Blaze, and Co. are set to return. Will it be a full 3D remake, or a simple Nintendo 3DS port, utilising the 3D capabilities of the handheld system? We'll bring you more news when we get it.
