Warner Bros. has tapped the screenwriter of 12 Rounds to adapt Space Invaders into a movie. Yes, that Space Invaders...
NewsUp until now, there has arguably not been a great film directly adapted from a video game. But the law of averages dictates that eventually has to change, right? Warner Bros. certainly seems to think so, as they have just tapped one of the more sought after writers from the coveted black list to pen the script for Space Invaders. Yes, that 1978 arcade game is becoming a movie.
As first broken by Deadline, Dan Kunka, the screenwriter of 12 Rounds, will be providing scripting duties for Space Invaders, which, presumably, will seek to find a plot to the arcade game turned 1980 Atari bestseller. Hey, why not? If Independence Day had been titled “Space Invaders,” it would have been no more faithful or inaccurate than any other adaptation as long as it has well…space invaders. And if WB can get a movie like this out of the brand, then fire away.
Kunka is mostly known around Hollywood for his currently unproduced script Yellowstone Falls, which features the noble Gray Wolves versus carnivorous zombies. Honestly, we’d like to see that one first…
