NetherRealm Studios has revealed new characters in Mortal Kombat X as well as details about the story!

Trailer

Editor's Note: Make sure to check out everything we know about Mortal Kombat X!

After series creator Ed Boon teased us over Twitter for several hours, we finally got what we were looking for: a BRUTAL announcement that revealed 5 new characters in Mortal Kombat X!

And they're all in this trailer:

The trailer showcases the next generation of characters, as they join forces to fight against the power hungry clone, Mileena and her Outworld rebel army. On one hand, the warned threat from the last game Shinnok is shown defeated by Raiden, but it appears that may have caused even more problems.

Taking place 25 years after the events of Mortal Kombat (2011), the new generation of characters will discover that Outworld is not the only threat they face. The new generation fighters joining Cassie Cage (daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade) are Jacqueline Briggs, daughter of Jax, Takashi Takeda, son of Kenshi and Kung Jin, younger cousin of Kung Lao.

Several of these characters have appeared in the Mortal Kombat X prequel comic and will make their video game debut in this game. Kung Jin has not appeared in the comic yet, but he was on a leaked casting list for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X web series.

Another new character from the comic is Erron Black. He makes a couple very, very quick appearances here. The Outworld gunslinger can be seen 46 seconds in, 51 seconds in, and 1:22 in (he's on the right). Speaking of "blink and you'll miss it," the purple ninja Rain is seen kicking Kotal Kahn off a rooftop at 1:19.

We also got a brief glimpse of Queen Sindel, who certainly should be in this game after she murdered half of the cast of the last installment. We don't see much of her in this trailer except that little shot of her getting punched in the face...There are also older Sub-Zero and Scorpion for brief moments. They will undoubtedly play mentor roles to the young heroes. For example, in the comics, Takeda is Scorpion's student. And, hey, look at that...looks like you can play as Scorpion's human form!

The story will focus on the four young heroes, who are trying to recover an amulet from Mileena, who is waging a war against Kotal Kahn, the ruler of Outworld. Who will have the throne? It's probably bad news for Earthrealm either way.
