Nineties brawler ClayFighter is making a comeback in remastered form, developer Interplay has announced...
NewsAh, the early 90s. When one-on-one brawlers like Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat ruled the roost. And not far behind them were a number of smaller, quirkier titles which still gave us hours of fun - among them the exceedingly odd ClayFighter.
Chiefly sold on its claymation visual style and colorful characters (where else could you see a snowman fight a giant green blob of goo?), ClayFighter first appeared on the SNES back in 1993. A couple of sequels followed, and there was talk of a WiiWare version in 2009 which was later canceled.
But according to the series' original developer Interplay, ClayFighter's about to make a comeback. Those clay models of old will now appear in high-res form, along with improved sound and updates to its play mechanics - those listed include "double jumping, air dashing, counters and reversals."
ClayFighter's currently scheduled for release in 2016 for "personal computers." We'll have to wait and see whether it'll spread to consoles. More news on this as we get it.
