Amazon Games presented a 5-hour (!) stream of Mortal Kombat X footage including a long-awaited look at pre-order character Goro.
NewsFor months, NetherRealm Studios has been gracing us with hour-long Kombat Kast streams of footage of Mortal Kombat X, mostly focusing on each character and their three fighting style variations. After umpteen episodes, they’ve gone through nearly the entire default roster, leaving only Jax and Jacqui Briggs for this coming Thursday’s finale.
Today they did a special FIVE HOUR stream through Amazon Games’ Twitch channel that featured a lot of Goro gameplay. Goro is DLC and available for free if you pre-order the game. You can watch the stream here.

Goro's three variations include Tigrar Fury, Kuatan Warrior, and Dragon Fangs. Tigrar Fury is kind of a Kintaro-like mode where he gets a lot of fire-breathing attacks. Kuatan Warrior is more grapple-based. Dragon Fangs has him use a series of bladed gauntlets. Otherwise, the dude is a pure powerhouse and looks like fun to play as. Too bad the footage is a chore to sit through due to one of Amazon's podcast guys' tendency to annoyingly scream through everything that happens.
Late in the stream, there's footage of Jax and Jacqui Briggs, although not enough to really get how they play, since only one NetherRealm representative was there to know what he was doing. At the very least, we know that Jacqui's variants include Shotgun, Full Auto, and High Tech, while Jax's are Pumped Up, Heavy Weapons, and Wrestling.
Otherwise, there isn't too much in terms of new concepts. They tried to show off Test Your Might, but the build screwed up and refused to play it. They spent a long, long time playing Test Your Luck, which was pretty fun. They showed off the first chapter in Story Mode and later did some random matches.
If you don't feel like drudging through, here’s a trailer released that gives us a taste of what Goro's all about.
Goro originally appeared in the first Mortal Kombat as a stop-motion subboss. As the story goes, Goro was Shang Tsung’s ace in the hole in constantly winning the Mortal Kombat tournament for 500 years, starting with the time he defeated and killed previous champion and Earthrealm defender Kung Lao (ancestor of the hat-throwing guy with the same name). Goro was finally defeated at the hands of Liu Kang.
The Mortal Kombat X prequel comic shows a major beef between Goro and the game’s new antihero Kotal Kahn. Many years ago, Goro and Shao Kahn annihilated most of Kotal’s race until they surrendered and became subservient to Shao Kahn’s empire. Sometime after Shao Kahn’s death, Kotal took over as emperor of Outworld and Goro became one of his minions. Feeling disrespected, Goro betrayed Kotal Kahn and led the destruction in what remained of Kotal's people, including killing Kotal’s father himself. The last of his race and furious beyond reason, Kotal Kahn got his revenge in battle and dismembered Goro to the point of worthlessness while refusing to outright kill him.
As for how Goro is 100% healthy with a working set of limbs in the game, there’s a whole thing involving Kintaro and Quan Chi, but I've spoiled enough.
