Action RPG Songbringer hits Kickstarter, and promises Zelda-style 2D adventuring with procedurally-generated dungeons...
News"What if each time you played The Legend of Zelda, it was a different world with unique secrets and mysteriously new dungeons?"
That's what indie developer Nathanael Weiss asks on the Kickstarter page for Songbringer, an action RPG which aims to put a new spin on the 2D Zelda format of old.
And while Zelda might be a familiar hook, Songbringer has its own darker and more foreboding tone - its dungeons are populated by four-eyed minotaurs, malevolent blobs, and eerie-looking statues.
The game will procedurally generate an overworld with its own unique dungeons and hidden areas based on whatever six-letter word (or jumble of letters) you tap into it at the beginning - this means that typing in the same word will always yield the same results, allowing players to share the unique worlds they've discovered with other players.
Weiss, who's creating the game by himself, says he needs another six months to get Songbringer finished, and he's therefore asking for a paltry $9,000 to enable him to do so. Stretch goals include additional items and cut-scenes.
It's already a solid-looking game, and with $8 all that's required to acquire a copy, well worth your consideration. Here's Weiss's pitch video:
Songbringer is also on Steam Greenlight.
