There's a new Ghostbusters game on the way. But don't get too excited - it's another match-three puzzle game...
NewsFlying in the face of the convention that games based on movies are usually terrible, the batting average of Ghostbustersspin-offs is quite good. The Real Ghostbustersarcade machine from the 80s was fun, and there was a really good Mega Drive game based on Ghostbusters II, released in 1990.
Then there was Ghostbusters: The Video Game from 2009, which created an entertaining 3D action game based around the spook-catching concept, and contained the likes of Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray among its voice cast.
Capcom's now adding to the line of Ghostbustersgames with Ghostbusters: Puzzle Fighter for iOS. Yes, as the title implies, it's yet another match-three puzzler, RPG and card-game hybrid, arriving in the wake of things like Puzzles & Dragons and its numerous spin-offs (including the Mario one coming soon to the 3DS).
We don't necessarily have anything against these sorts of games, but take a look at the screenshot below. The link between Ghostbustersand the game itself seems tenuous at best. So that's one of the Terror Dogs on the right there, we get that. And behind it is the Library Ghost. But who the hell are they on the left? What's Janine wearing? No wonder the screen says "Confused."
We digress. Capcom's Ghostbusters Puzzle Fighteris due for release in June. Here are the first screenshots:
