Not A Hero is a must-play indie platform shooter. Here's how you can get hold of the demo, plus more release details...

Imagine a game with the pace, 16-bit graphics and gore of Hotline Miami, but reconfigured as a side-scrolling puzzle shooter, and you'll get a flavour of what Not A Hero's all about.

About a purple rabbit called BunnyLord who aims to become the mayor of a city by meting out even more violence, Not A Hero is the latest game from OlliOllideveloper Roll7, and published by Devolver Digital, purveyors of Hotline Miami.

In the run-up to the UK election, Roll7 have "leaked" a demo for its forthcoming game, which you can download from the website of "a previously unknown British political faction" called UJIP. The developers seem to be having fun at a certain UK independence party in both the website and the demo itself, though we can't think for the life of us what it might be (cough).

Such mischief aside, the demo's an absolute riot; we've had a few goes on it already, and we're already sold on the sheer energy and flow of the thing. We particularly like the character Cletus, who can crash through windows and blow bad guys away with a shotgun. It's incredibly violent, but the gore's leavened by the tongue-in-cheek humour; one level sees you collecting garden gnomes from a bad guy's warehouse.

The finished game's due for release on the May 7 for PC, with PlayStation 4 and Vita versions coming later this year. You can currently pre-order the game from Steam, which will also make you eligible for 10 percent off a download of OlliOlli.

In the meantime, here's the UJIP website, where you can download the "leaked"Not A Hero demo.
