Myst, the Mac-originating video game from 1993, will become a TV show, thanks to The Amazing Spider-Man's Matt Tolmach…
NewsRemember Myst? Well, the island-based 1993 video game looks all set to get the TV adaptation treatment. Deadline reports that The Amazing Spider-Man producer Matt Tolmach is teaming up with Divergentscripter Evan Daugherty to bring the project to life.
The game itself focused on the mysterious Stranger character, whom the player would control on a quest to explore various worlds and uncover clues about the backstory of the character. An array of different endings were available based on your actions, but presumably the TV show will have to pick just one.
The immensely popular game went from its humble beginnings as an early-nineties Mac game to spawn four sequels and a series of spin-offs (both gaming ones and novels). Until StarCraft came out in 1998, Mystwas the best-selling PC game of all time.
According to Deadline, the telly version "blends elements of science fiction and fantasy. It will explore the origins of the island of Myst from the game where a man wakes up on a mystery island with absolutely no idea who he is, where is, or how he got there."
Legendary Television are behind the adaptation, and it’s believed that the battle to secure the rights (which were owned by the game’s developers Cyan Worlds) was hotly contested.
We’re certainly intrigued by this one. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
