Today's Xbox E3 2015 Media Briefing featured a number of surprise announcements, including a major new exclusive franchise and news on backwards compatibility.

After starting the press conference off with the obligatory Halo 5 demo, Microsoft rolled a trailer for a new game from "the makers of Metroid Prime," Armature Studios.

Recore is a story about a girl and her robot dog and is exclusive to Xbox One.

Following that reveal, Microsoft dropped some news about the Xbox One hardware itself.

The system will soon be backward compatible with Xbox 360 games.

"The games you have invested your time and money in will be able to be played natively on your Xbox One," said Head of Microsoft's Xbox Division Phil Spencer.

Gamers will have to have the Xbox 360 disc in the slot drive and then will download a native digital version to the Xbox One. 100 games will be supported by this holiday. Here are the games initially available:

Microsoft also announced several other new titles besides Recore, including action RPG Ashen, PvP title Gigantic and adventure title Beyond Eyes. Gigantic is exclusive to Xbox One and Windows 10 and Beyond Eyes is a temporary console exclusive. Gone Home developer The Fullbright Company also showed off its next game, Tacoma, which will be first on console on Xbox One. You can check out trailer for these games below.
