The official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel has released a unique new video featuring Shia LaBeouf. It's quite strange.
Viral VideoWell, this is a bit odd. Someone at Sega has taken footage of actor Shia LaBeouf and spliced it into a snippet from Sonic Generations. This isn't just any bit of LaBeouf footage either, but an excerpt from a fine art project created by students at Central Saint Martins university. Since it was posted on Vimeo a couple of months ago, the segment where LaBeouf provides some motivational advice ("Just do it!") has grown into an internet meme.
And now Sega's picked it up for what we can assure you is an official video - it's from the company's YouTube account and its Twitter feed. What can it all mean? Is it meant as a burst of encouragement for Sonic and Sega themselves - two pop culture entities going through difficult times of late? More likely, it's the latest update from an increasingly strange social media account. The Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter feed did, after all, tweet an image of a bald eagle (caption: "Glorious bald eages") on the 4th of July.
Anyway, with possible spoilers for Sonic Generations, here's that video:
