Once on hold, the side-scrolling platformer semi-sequel Super Meat Boy Forever is back in development again, its co-creator reveals...
NewsIt's been almost five years since the extremely successful (and extremely hard) Super Meat Boyfirst launched. Its creators have since kept themselves busy with a string of other games, most notably The Binding of Isaac. But what about Super Meat Boy Forever, the side-scrolling semi-sequel teased last summer?
On hold while Team Meat's Ed McMillen finished his very strange crime-solving game, Fingered (out now on Steam), Super Meat Boy Foreveris now back in development, the design duo has revealed. Another of their projects, Mewgenics (which has something to do with cats) is still on hold, while The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth, a downloadable add-on for Team Meat's The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth game, is due out in the next month or two.
"Super Meat Boy Forever is back in development again and is my primary project at this point now that Afterbirthis basically complete on my end and Fingered is [almost] out," McMillen said. "Mew is on hold till after Foreveris out, the only target release is, 'When it's done.'"
Super Meat Boy Foreverwill be a little different from its 2010 predecessor, in that it's a touch-based platformer with "double the bosses" of the original, levels that randomly regenerate after you die, and a total of six chapters. Forever will be designed from the ground up for touch devices, but it's also being developed for PC.
Super Meat Boy Foreverwas originally penciled in for release this year, though whether that will still happen hasn't been clarified.
