The first two Turok games are being restored and remastered. It's about time!

News

Although dinosaurs are scientific marvels to be respected and admired in history, they are A LOT of fun to shoot at. Movies like Jurassic World and games like Ark: Survival Evolved have brought dino hunting back to the forefront of pop culture as the most dangerous (and ultimately rewarding) game. And there's no doubt that's the reason the first two Turok games are getting the remastered treatment.

Originally developed by Iguana Entertainment for the N64 in the late 90s, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2: Seeds of Evilwill receive PC remasters from Night Dive Studios, which specializes in restorations.

Both games "will be re-mastered for today's modern computers with enhanced graphics and other improvements," the developer said in a statement.

"When Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was first released it was nothing short of revolutionary," Night Dive Studios CEO Stephen Kick said. "To that point, no game had ever offered the combination of graphics and an open world environment that Turok featured. We are very excited to have the opportunity to bring this great franchise back to life and to be able to share these great titles with today's gaming audience."

Night Dive previously remastered System Shock 2 and a game designed by sci-fi writer Harlan Ellison called I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream

"Night Dive Studios believes that classic video games should never be abandoned or forgotten," the company says. "They should be available to play at any time, run out of the box without the hassle of installing outdated drivers, or using obsolete hardware. Movies are restored, books are digitized, and art is preserved to be appreciated for all time. Why should games be any different?"

No release date has been announced for this one, but we're so happy it's happening. We'll leave you with some gameplay from the original N64 title:
