Ubisoft's new mystery game is in fact a new Far Cry title that might surprise you. Here's the reveal trailer!

News

Update: Ubisoft has finally revealed its new mystery game, which the company first began teasing yesterday in a live stream. The game is called Far Cry Primal, and it's all about hunting down mammoths.

Check out the reveal trailer:

Whether all this is your cup of tea or not is all, naturally enough, down to personal taste. Ubisoft says you'll play Takkar, "a seasoned hunter and the last surviving member of his hunting group."

Players will "craft weapons and tools partly from the bones of slain beasts, hunt for food, master fire, fend off fierce predators and face off against other tribes to conquer Oros."

Oros, we've learned, is the land where Primal takes place. The game's out on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Feb. 23, with the PC edition out in March.

Original Story: With a splash of fire and a few wobbly images, Ubisoft is starting a teasing campaign for an as-yet untitled new game. It has men with spears, sabre tooth tigers, bears, elephants and a big owl.

It all looks like something from those wonderful French caves Werner Herzog explored in his documentary, Cave of Forgotten Dreams.

Here it is:

It's all very atmospheric, but what is it advertising? Well, IGN's Turkish Twitter account may have let the feline out of the sack. In a tweet that was swiftly deleted, it revealed a game called Far Cry Primal, with the title accompanied by a drmatic image involving tribespeople, standing stones, and a hazy forest. Because this is the internet, the tweet didn't go unnoticed, and an eagle-eyed NeoGaf poster shared a screengrab of it with the world:

The link hasn't officially been established between these two bits of imagery, but it seems a bit too much to be a coincidence, doesn't it? We appear to be in for a Far Cry spin-off akin to Blood Dragon if it all comes off.

More on this as we get it.
