Cue up the Peter Gunn theme tune, because the Spy Hunter movie is back on at Warner Bros.
NewsSpy Hunter was a 1983 arcade game made by Midway, released at the height of James Bond's Roger Moore-era popularity. It was, for its time, a fairly immersive experience, with most cabinest designed as a sit-in driving machine, complete with high tech steering wheel that allowed you to control a sleek driving machine equipped with machine guns, smoke screens, oil slicks, and rockets.
Instead of the famous Bond theme, it used Henry Mancini's Peter Gunn theme as its musical background, which is extraordinarily cool in its own right. As far as early video games go, it's an undisputed classic. There were some remakes, but none matched the simple cool of the original.
So, of course this will become a movie. Nelson Greaves and Sam Chalsen (Sleepy Hollow) have signed on to write a script for the Spy Huntermovie for Warner Bros. Dan Lin and Roy Lee are producing with John Middleton and Doug Davison executive producing. The film has gone through an army of potential directors over the last decade, and most recently Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) was set to direct, but it's unclear if he's still around.
Maybe it will actually happen this time.
