The Wii U is getting a HD remake of Twilight Princess, and the trailer shows a snippet from Zelda Wii U, too...
NewsDuring last night’s Nintendo Direct broadcast, the first of its kind since the sad death of Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata, you’d be forgiven for thinking: where’s Zelda Wii U? The much-anticipated Legend Of Zelda sequel has been a long time coming, and given that next year marks the series’ 30th anniversary, it seemed certain that something concrete would be announced.
Instead, Nintendo unveiled Twilight Princess HD, a beefed-up remake of the Gamecube and Wii entry that saw Link transform into a wolf (a sly nudge at rival action adventure Okami, perhaps?). The new, HD version will come with amiibo support and its own special figurine of Midna riding Wolf Link, which looks very pleasant.
The bigger surprise comes tucked away at the end of the Twilight Princess HD trailer; here, in the last 20 seconds or so, we’re treated to a shot of Link riding his trusty steed Epona through a dramatic landscape. It’s not much, but hey, we’ll take what we can get at this stage; and it has to be said thatZelda Wii U (as we’re currently calling it) looks quite handsome, particularly when compared to the Twlight Princess HD footage.
Plus, the snippet reaffirms Nintendo’s commitment to releasing the Wii U sequel in time for Zelda’s anniversary, though we don’t yet know precisely when in 2016 it’ll launch.
Twilight Princess HD, on the other hand, will be available from the 4th March 2016.
In other news, Hyrule Warriors Legends, a port of the popular Zelda hack-and-slash game for the Wii, is coming to 3DS. And it comes with a brand new character, a female version of Link named Linkle. She has two crossbows and looks badass in her new reveal trailer. The game will also add Toon Link, The King of Hyrule, Tetra, and Skull Kid to the mix.
Here's that Linkle reveal trailer:
Hyrule Warriors Legends is coming to 3DS on March 25.
