The creators of Retro City Rampage return with a 16-bit sequel, Shakedown Hawaii. Here's a first trailer...
TrailerAll we can say is, if Shakedown Hawaii had been around in early '90s arcades, we'd probably have played it to death. This is the sequel to VBlank's indie hit, RetroCity Rampage, and is once again an '80s-themed homage to (and parody of) the Grand Theft Auto series.
It's set 30 years after the first game, but is once again a top-down action game that mixes violence with cute pixel graphic vs. This time, however, the style's moved on from the NES era to something closer to the 16-bit epoch, with graphics that could have easily graced a once cutting edge console like the Neo Geo. I mean, look at the way the houses rock after an explosion, or the way the palm trees sway in the breeze. Details like these would have been a bit too much for the Sega Genesis, I suspect.
What other changes have been brought to the run-and-gun formula aren't yet clear from the 40-second trailer, nor do we have a release date as yet. When we do, we'll be sure to pass them along.
Shakedown Hawaii is coming to the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
