Capcom has confirmed that the Resident Evil 2 remaster is actually a remake from the ground up.
NewsResident Evil fans were left a little worried when Capcom released its latest financial report, which referred to the publisher's current Resident Evil 2 project as a "remaster." Fear not: the publisher has confirmed that the new Resident Evil 2 will be a complete remake of the game.
Capcom's UK marketing director clarified over Twitter:
Seems to be a few people picking up a mistranslation in our own investor report. RE2 will be a full from the ground up remake NOT a remaster

This is good news. The most recent Resident Evil re-release was a remaster of the first game in the series. Resident Evil Zero is also getting a remaster in 2016. We don't have a release date for the Resident Evil 2 remake as of yet, but will be sure to let you know as soon as we do.
Original Story 12.03.15:
Can't say we didn't see this one coming: Capcom has announced its plans to remaster Resident Evil 2 for current-gen consoles, a move that comes on the heels of the Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster announcement.
In fact, the company has spent a lot of time remastering of late. This year, it released Resident Evil HD Remaster, DMC Remastered, and Devil May Cry 4 HD Remaster, and will release the Mega Man Legacy Collection on Aug. 25. Notice a pattern here?
Well, it looks like Capcom is really interested in bringing a lot of the classics back for new generations of gamers, and who are we to argue against that? I'm not going to lie: I want to play Resident Evil 2 Remastered as much as the next guy.
Anyway, here's the announcement from Capcom:
No release date has been set yet, but we imagine this game will come after Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster, which is due out in Early 2016.
