A new listing on the ESRB suggests that Max Payne is heading to PlayStation 4. Could it be a re-release of the original...?
NewsA few weeks ago, Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 is capable of emulating PlayStation 2 games, meaning that a wave of old games from around a decade ago could be heading our way fairly soon. While we won't be able to just put our old PS2 discs in the new-gen PlayStation, we're at least a bit further forward than we were a few months ago, when Sony originally stated that backwards compatibility simply couldn't happen.
At any rate, one of the finest games available for the PS2 could be getting a new airing. We've had an incling of this thanks to a listing on the Entertainment Software Ratings Board's website, which states that a game called Max Payne has been rated M for the PlayStation 4.
Max Payne, you may remember, was the hard-boiled third-person shooter that played out like a Raymond Chandler novel adapted by John Woo. There were gangsters and murders, copious dollops of slow-motion and two-fisted gunplay. It's certainly a game worth resurrecting, and while an official announcement hasn't been made yet (hence the note of caution in our headline), the sign's certainly there. According to Polygon, who first discovered the listing, other games appeared on the ESRB site before they were re-released, such as Dark Cloudand Rogue Galaxy.
Other games thought to be heading our way include Ape Escape 2, Dark Cloud 2, and Twisted Metal 2.
More news on Max Payne and other re-releases as we get it.
