Following Hideo Kojima's move to Sony, he talks about his new game, a possible movie, and his desire to work with Guillermo del Toro...

So after a very public parting of the ways from his old company Konami, Hideo Kojima has inked a deal with Sony that will see him produce an exclusive game for the PlayStation 4. This may mean that Kojima's involvement with the Metal Gear franchise is officially at an end, but it at least means we'll see what else he can come up with away from his enormously successful action stealth series.

At Sony, Kojima's set up a new iteration of his independent studio Kojima Productions, where he'll be joined by producer Kenichiro Imaizumi and artist Yoji Shinkawa - the genius behind Metal Gear's incredible artwork. But what will they make together? While specifics are currently being kept from public view, Kojima's dropped some teasing hints in a new interview with IGN.

"I want to create something that’s what people expect, but at the same time will have something new that people haven’t seen before," Kojima said. "I'm thinking smaller-scale, not too many people, and focusing on game creation at first."

Kojima also added that "it will be a complete game", which is a bit of an enigmatic statement. Does he mean it won't be an episodic production or something like that? As for the art style, Yoji Shinkawa said his plan is to create a game that is "more recognisable, more beloved" than even Metal Gear. That's a high bar to set. Interestingly, Shinkawa also menitoned that he'll be handling, "characters, concepts for the backgrounds, concepts for the mechs," which suggests we're in for a game with at least a hint of Metal Gear's sci-fi leanings.

While getting the game made is Kojima's first priority, he also has big plans for his company in the not-too-distant future. "The focus is on digital content," Kojima said, "so we could consider movies, animations, anything. But I think people expect games from me."

Elsewhere, Kojima also expressed his desire to work with director Guillermo del Toro again, following their ill-fated collaboration, Silent Hills. With that game's demo, PT, proving such a chilling experience, it would certainly be exciting to see them work together on another horror project.

More on this as we get it.
