The Division: Glitches Found in PC Beta

Ubisoft's The Division has had a bit of a cheating problem over its beta phase, with players giving themselves lots of ammo and more...

Beta phases are perfect for ironing out glitches and getting the balance of a game just right. But we suspect Ubisoft wasn't expecting to have a gaping flaw exposed in The Division, its forthcoming online shooter-RPG hybrid.

Over the game's three-day PC beta, a few cunning players have discovered a means of giving themselves things like infinite ammo and super speed - and most worryingly, for Ubisoft, the cheat seems quite simple to pull off.

Essentially, The Division leaves key gameplay data - your ammo count, for example - on the player's machine, which means anyone with a modicum of knowhow can find and edit those values to their advantage.

The result? A growing number of complaints about cheating players running around so quickly that they can't even be seen, and other abuses. With posts building up on the subject at Reddit, Ubisoft has provided a response to the problem:

"Guys, so you're aware the things discussed here are not in fact hacks or cheats,"The Division's community manager wrote, "but merely abuse of glitches that exist in the game currently. These glitches are being worked on by the team."

One player, meanwhile, isn't quite so sure that The Division's flaw can be plugged up so quickly.

"...this is not just a lack of anticheat," the player writes on Reddit, "it is a global networking architecture fuckup. I highly doubt that this will be fixed any time soon after release."

The Division launches on the 8th March. Here's hoping Ubisoft really can find a way to fix the problem before then.
