Take a look at The Dark Knight game that never happened in this cool video.
If you've ever wondered why we never got a video game adaptation of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, Did You Know Gaming? has made the reasons pretty clear in a new video. You might recall that back in 2008, just before the release of Nolan's highly anticipated sequel to Batman Begins (which did get a pretty bad video game adaptation), actor Gary Oldman let slip that he'd signed on to reprise his role as Jim Gordon in the upcoming Dark Knightvideo game, a secret that Pandemic Studios and Electronic Arts had yet to reveal to the public.
Since then, fans have scrutinized the project and the reasons behind why The Dark Knightvideo game never saw the light of day (night?). This new video gives us those reasons, and even shows us how Pandemic (the developer behind the first Battlefront games) attempted to make the game using an engine that didn't quite gel with the ambitious project.
Check this out:
It's interesting to hear that Pandemic was pursuing an open-world Batman game, something we'd eventually get a year later in the form of Batman: Arkham Asylum from Rocksteady Studios. Of course, the latter's sandbox was a bit less ambitious than the one Pandemic proposed. But Rocksteady totally hit open world out of the park by the time Arkham City hit shelves. I'd say we were probably better off getting an original Batman game—one of the best ever made (the first really good Batman game of the modern age)—than the adaptation we were first promised from Pandemic.
Still, it was a shame to see Pandemic close its doors, especially after the marvelous work on the first two Battlefront games, which I reckon are still better than the new one EA released last year...
