The rebooted Doom will have a campaign lasting "13-plus" hours, id Software reveals. Plus: new enemy details have been uncovered...
For a while there, it looked as though the single-player campaign was something of a dying form when it came to first-person shooters, with numerous developers either offering half-hearted, three-hour solo missions or ignoring them entirely. But id Software appear to be as keen to retain the hugely enjoyable single-player heritage of its newly-rebooted Doom as its online competitive modes, if a recent Twitter exchange is anything to go by.

According to a tweet from id, replying to a query about Doom's campaign, the solo outing could take around 13 hours to complete, depending on what level it's played on.
"The difficulty level plays a factor," the tweet reads, "but folks playing at the office average 13+ hours in the campaign."
Given the brevity of some recent Call of Duty campaigns, that doesn't sound like a bad deal at all.
In other Doom news, several cunning data miners have been combing through the game's Alpha build code in the search for clues, and they've dug up all kinds of information about the kinds of demons, weapons, and other bits and pieces we'll be seeing in the finished game. Hell Knights, Revenants, Cyberdemons, and Cacodemons are just a few of the details uncovered, though it's not necessarily a given they'll be around in the final build. They could just be footprints from ideas considered for the game and later taken out.
There's some intriguing stuff in there, though, and assuming you don't mind having some of Doom's possible surprises spoiled, you can read the list of enemies discovered at Imgur here, and some other interesting data here.
Doom is out on the May 13 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
