Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima talks about his new studio and the new game he's making exclusively for Sony...

While it's disappointing that Hideo Kojima's parting from Konami proved to be so acrimonious, it's heartening that the Metal Gear designer has managed to find a new home so quickly. You'll probably recall that Kojima recently signed adeal with Sony that will see his company - Kojima Productions - create a new, exclusive title for the PlayStation 4.

At the DICE (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit in Las Vegas yesterday, Kojima sat down with Guillermo del Toro to talk about his post-Konami exploits.

"I feel extremely free right now," Kojima said. "I am trying to make a big game with a very small team. I am doing exactly what I want to do."

Kojima only spoke glancingly about the game he's making for Sony, but he did suggest that's going to be something large-scale, with a "strong dramatic story", and most of all, "edgy":

"It's risky, because we're just starting up, so it probably would be better to go with something smaller-scale, maybe linear, but Sony is supporting us to make a big game that's edgy with a strong story that gives the player a lot of freedom, with new elements, and I don't know if that's possible. But we'll see."

You can see the full talk below, and if you have about 50 minutes to spare, it's well worth a watch. We particularly like the bit where Guillermo del Toro talks about singing anime themes with Kojima in karaoke bars. "I sing them in Spanish, he sings them in Japanese. We don't understand shit," del Toro jokes.

More pertinently to the realm of videogames, Kojima and del Toro vow to collaborate on a project again following the untimely cancellation of Silent Hills.

"Of course, I'd love to [work with del Toro]," Kojima says. "I don't care what it is. It will probably be really tough. A game or a movie, I don't care, we'll do it."

More news on Kojima's projects as we get it.
