Fan-favorite grappler Alex is going to be the first downloadable character within the next couple weeks. Check out the screens!
It’s been a few weeks since Street Fighter V’s hit the scene and while opinions have varied on what amounts to a fighting game starter kit, the potential is through the roof. Capcom intends to keep adding new characters and features to the game and the first instance is coming up later this month.
Capcom’s released a handful of images of Alex, the first DLC character. You can earn him via in-game fight money or just buy him the old fashioned way.
Oh, snap! He’s giving Ryu the Outsider’s Edge!
Alex comes from the Street Fighter III series, where he played the role of the main hero. A military tough guy with a chip on his shoulder, Alex became enraged when his mentor Tom was badly injured in a fight against the godling Gill. Alex set out to avenge the beating, causing him to enter the world of street fighting. Even though he beat down Gill, he realized that fighting worthy opponents gave him a new reason to be. He’s a grappler of sorts, though more agile than the likes of Zangief and Hugo.
Oh, and Alex also landed at #9 when we ranked every Street Fighter character.
Like all characters, Alex has his own specific abilities outside of just special moves. His V-Skill has him taunt by stretching. If he pulls it off unhindered, his next attack will hit harder. His V-Trigger allows him to do a charging clothesline that seems similar to Ralf Jones’ Galactica Phantom from King of Fighters. When charging it up, he’ll parry attacks and when he lets it loose, it’s powerful enough to break through his opponent’s blocking, opening them up for more abuse.
Then there’s his Critical Art, the Heavy Hammer. He swipes at his opponent a few times to stun them, then gives them a flying Crucifix Powerbomb. Awesome.
The update will integrate Challenge Mode, which should teach the player more about what’s going on in the Street Fighter V engine than the base version’s tutorial. The in-game store will be added and certain characters will be tweaked in one way or another.
The next DLC character available will be Guile, followed by Balrog, Ibuki, Juri, and Urien.
