Fallout 4 was one of the biggest blockbuster games of last year - but there's a good reason why we haven't had a movie...

One of the biggest selling games of the last year or so is Fallout4, a game so big that many who received it are still playing it. And in an era when hit videogames are regularly being snapped up for the big screen movie treatment, it's a surprise that Fallouthasn't gone down that path yet. After all, the game's world is clearly cinematic, and there's no shortage of possible stories to tell.

Executive producer at publisher Bethesda, Todd Howard, spoke with Games Industry, and admitted that there have been talks about a Falloutfilm. But there's also been a very good reason it hasn't happened. "Everybody’s kind of asked and I’ve taken a number of meetings over the years and nothing quite clicked where I felt ‘oh, that would be as good as the game'", he said. "And that may happen. I don’t rule it out, but nothing really has clicked [whereas] the games are popular enough and that’s their identity.”

He added that "Fallout4, if there had been a Falloutmovie, you’d feel different about Falloutwhen we’d announced Fallout4, and one of them wouldn’t be quite right, and you wouldn’t want that to be the game."

He admits that they have "a pretty high bar" for any potential movie, and would obsess over the details of the film in the same way they do over the game.

Bottom line: don't expect a Falloutfilm anytime soon, but for good reasons.
