Rash from Battletoads, Arbiter from Halo, and several Killer Instinct 2 characters join the fray with more on the way. Check it out!
It’s been two and a half years, but Killer Instinct is still going strong. Released at the end of 2013, the rebooted take on the late-90s fighting game has been keeping its momentum going thanks to its season-based DLC system. More and more characters come out over time and now it’s time for Season 3.
The funny thing about this is that prior to the big relaunch, Killer Instinctonly had two games, meaning a fairly limited amount of characters all together. While they tossed in several new guys in the first two seasons, they also exhausted pretty much all the nostalgia. That’s why Season 3 brings in nostalgia from other Microsoft properties because there's virtually nobody left to reintroduce.
Here they are in action.
As it is right now, we have six known characters. From Killer Instinct 2, there’s Kim Wu, Tusk, and the game’s big bad Gargos. Rash from Battletoadsand Arbiter from Haloare also included. Then there’s a new character Mira, who is Maya’s dead sister resurrected as a vampire.
While Kim Wu, Tusk, Rash, and Arbiter are currently available already, Mira will be hitting the game in April while Gargos will be in May. There are two other fighters coming out in June and July respectively and while they haven’t been officially named yet, General RAAM from Gears of War is supposedly one of them, as discovered via a leak. I wouldn’t be shocked if the other character is Eyedol, the only old Killer Instinct character yet to make an appearance.
That will bring the game’s total characters to 26.
Another new addition on the way for Season 3 is Shadow Lords, a new campaign mode of sorts that involves fighting Gargos’ forces on a global scale. While we’ve yet to see it fully in action, it does seem to have the same flavor as Soul Blade’s Edge Master Mode, only you choose a trio of characters instead of just one.
There’s also a new multiplayer mode, though there’s no word on what that’s about. Regardless, it’ll be cross-platform. This comes in addition to some fixed up graphics and a bunch of special costumes.
Killer Instinct is available for Xbox One and newly available for Windows 10.
