Ubisoft Game Splinter Cell may split into a movie franchise.

The upcoming action fantasy film Splinter Cell is being considered for a sequel. New Regency is looking to turn the movie, which is based on the stealth video game by Ubisoft, into a movie franchise along with the cinematic adaptation of the gamemaker’s Assassins Creed.

“They are both adaptations of successful Ubisoft games and would make ideal sequels,” Daphne Yang, CEO of Catchplay.

Splinter Cell will star Tom Hardy as Sam Fisher, a black ops agent who works for the "Third Echelon" in the NSA. The movie will be directed by Doug Liman.  It has a likely release date of 2017.

New Regency struck a three movie Asian distributon deal with film production and aggregation company Catchplay in January last year, which included Splinter Cell, as well as Assassin’s Creed and The Revenant.

The game Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell was released in 2002 accompanied by tie-in novels.

Assassin’s Creed, which stars Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons is currently in post-production. It was directed by Justin Kurzel. It should hit theaters on Dec. 21. The next version of the game Assassin’s Creed should hit shelves in January 2017.
