Doom creator John Romero and Adrian Carmack have launched a Kickstarter for a brand new FPS IP called Blackroom.
id Software co-founders John Romero and Adrian Carmack, responsible for first-person shooter classics like Doom, Wolfenstein, and Quake, are once again teaming up for a new FPS game called Blackroom. They've launched a Kickstarter for the game with a goal of $700,000. If the game is funded in time, Blackroom could release as soon as Winter 2018 for PC.
The game takes place in a world where virtual reality has gone haywire during an experiment in the titular blackroom where things like haunted mansions and cityscapes can be simulated. Now you must step into the dangerous blackroom to sort things out.
Blackroom will include a single-player mode as well as multiplayer options, such as 1v1, an arena mode, and co-op. In a video, Romero described Blackroom as “a visceral, varied and violent shooter that harkens back to classic FPS play with a mixture of exploration, speed, and intense, weaponized combat.”
Romero and Carmack's announcement comes on the heels of a new Doom game, which they had nothing to do with. The new Doom is being developed by a Bethesda-led id Software and will release on May 13. We recently spent sometime with the new game's multiplayer and were a bit underwhelmed. Let's hope Blackroom can deliver the goods.
