SNK has started releasing trailers for each trio in their upcoming KOF revival. First up is the original hero team from Japan.
King of Fighters XIV is coming out in three months and after regularly releasing a collection of trailers to show off most of the cast, they’ve finally hit the point of outright establishing the 16 different teams. The 16 teams of three and two boss characters bring us a massive 50-fighter roster.
Hey, the graphics may be the butt of a million jokes for looking like that in 2016, but at least we’re getting some good quantity in there and the classic gameplay is supposedly still on point.
As SNK and Atlas creep closer to the August 23 release, they’ve started putting up trailers that show off each King of Fighters team. They started, appropriately enough, with Team Japan’s Kyo Kusanagi, Benimaru Nikaido, and Goro Daimon.
Kyo Kusanagi, the main character of King of Fighters, is a pyro-kinetic street fighter who is constantly stumbling into danger thanks to his success and the destiny of his bloodline. With him is Benimaru Nikaido, a flamboyant pretty boy with electric powers, who is constantly hitting on every woman he faces. Rounding them out is Goro Daimon, a powerful judo gold medalist who mixes grapples with the ability to create earthquakes with his own strength.
Team Japan first showed up in King of Fighters ’94, taking the spot of being the “hero team” and winning the first few games. After ’98, Kyo went missing and the other two started teaming up with newcomers K’ and Maxima. Eventually, the crew got back together, occasionally with the inclusion of Kyo’s annoying protégé Shingo Yabuki.
Speaking of Kyo, by preordering the game, you not only get a tin cover, but you also get free DLC for Kyo’s classic attire.
As for the roster, here’s the confirmed list of everyone in the game outside of the final boss. New characters are in bold while preexisting SNK characters who are new to King of Fighters are in bold and italics.
