The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion put its focus on linear dungeon crawling over open world exploration.
Rare gameplay footage has emerged of The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion, a cancelled PSP project that was based on 2006’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The footage comes via Reddit user Morderax and PtoPOnline, and offers a fascinating look at what could have been.
Developed by the now-defunct Climax Group London, The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion could have been a sweeping focal point of the PSP’s lifecycle. The most interesting thing about the newly unearthed footage is the narrowed gameplay focus on linear dungeon segments, due to the handheld’s hardware limitations, and thereby eliminating the series’ overworld exploration components.
According to Unseen64, The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion was originally slated for a spring 2007 release, before time and money constraints ultimately led to the project’s quiet cancellation. The game was supposedly going to include over 180 quests and a central hub area that housed vendors and other NPCs.
