The free-to-play game had secretly been in development for the last year and a half. Here’s everything we know about Fable Fortune!
Fable Fortune, a free-to-play collectable card game based on the Fableuniverse, had been in development for 18 months when Microsoft pulled the plug on Lionhead Studios earlier this year. But wanting to keep the project alive, Creative Director Mike West and a small team of ex-Lionhead employees convinced Microsoft to let them continue working on the game as an independent studio (Flaming Fowl), with Microsoft still retaining full rights to the Fablefranchise. While this deal gives continued life to Fable Fortune, it also means that the game is now without a publisher, so Flaming Fowl is turning to Kickstarter for help in bringing the CCG through the home stretch.
Originally envisioned to be part of Fable 2, Fable Fortune puts a new spin on the popular Hearthstoneformula, taking place in the whimsical Albion realm and incorporating the recognizable brand of Fablehumor throughout. One of the game’s biggest selling points is a unique cooperative mode that lets two players share their own decks to make powerful combinations against foes. In addition, regular Fortuneevents will encompass a core PVP league and Fableboss fights that players can battle together in co-op.
Flaming Fowl is currently seeking a funding goal of $365,385 for Fable Fortuneover the next four weeks. The game will initially be released on PC with Android and iOS versions to hopefully follow, and stretch goals include additional heroes and an Xbox One version of the game. Many of the reward tiers have an estimated delivery of August 2016, with a beta period planned around that timeframe as well.
