World of Warcraft: Blizzard Sheds Light on Legion & the Game's Future

What's next for World of Warcraft once the Burning Legion has been defeated? Here are some new details...

If you're like many World of Warcraft players that find themselves hopelessly drawn back to the game whenever a new expansion drops, you're likely counting down the days until the game's Legion expansion launches on August 30th and gives you a new reason to get lost in Azeroth yet again.

However, it won't be long before you finish the new content in Legion and are again left asking, "So, what's next?"

Fortunately, this question is also on the minds of Warcraft's design team who in a recent interview with IGN outlined some of Blizzard's plans to keep Warcraft feeling fresh moving forward.

Specifically, lead designer Ion Hazzikostas spoke about Legion's emphasis on dungeon-based gameplay and how their "new scaling mythic dungeons are tied to the dungeon system in Legion...so it feels like a very good time for us to continue to support going forward patches."

Hazzikostas was referring to an earlier remark in the interview regarding whether or not Warcraft's development team will focus on providing more significant, content-filled game patches moving forward. This is a common concern that Blizzard is well aware of.

"I mean, not every patch needs to be a sprawling outdoor zone," Hazzikostas said. "We feel what we're coming out with right out of the gate in Legion is going to keep players engaged and challenged and entertained for quite a while to come."

That said, Hazzikostas did mention that the team plans to release a "robust" content patch for Legion in the future.

It certainly sounds like Blizzard is aware of the dissent among some Warcraft fans following their failure to continue patching the game after the Warlords of Draenorexpansion brought so many back into the fold initially. Let's hope that they can indeed deliver on the promising potential of Legion and make sure that Warcraft players aren't asking "What's next?" for some time to come.
