Nintendo's Mini-NES comes loaded with 30 classic games, including Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, and Super Mario Bros.

Following E3, we assumed that the next time Nintendo announced the release of a new console that they would be talking about the NX. What we got instead is...well, it's actually pretty awesome.

Today, Nintendo revealed that they will be launching a miniature version of the original NES console (known as the NES Classic Edition) that is capable of being played on a modern television via an HDMI cable. Though not a fully-functional NES recreation capable of playing original cartridges, this mini-NES comes equipped with 30 classic NES titles, as well as a single controller, and is set to retail for $60 (an additional controller will cost $9.99).

Here's the full list of games that come pre-installed on the miniature NES:

  • Balloon Fight
  • Bubble Bobble
  • Castlevania
  • Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
  • Donkey Kong
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • Double Dragon II: The Revenge
  • Dr. Mario
  • Excitebike
  • Final Fantasy
  • Galaga
  • Ghosts N' Goblins
  • Gradius
  • Ice Climber
  • Kid Icarus
  • Kirby's Adventure
  • Mario Bros.
  • Mega Man 2
  • Metroid
  • Ninja Gaiden
  • Pac-Man
  • Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
  • StarTropics
  • Super C
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Tecmo Bowl
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

This device is certainly an appealing proposition for those who do not own a recent Nintendo console and are unable to take advantage of the sizable back catalog available on Nintendo's eShop and for Nintendo diehards looking to add a neat little piece of nostalgia to their entertainment center. That being said, it would be nice if the device allowed you to download additional NES games through a built-in online store.

The NES Classic Edition will be available to purchase starting on November 11th.
