After 22 years since his last video game appearance, Killer Instinct's original final boss is resurrected as the final Season 3 DLC.
Over the weekend, the Evolution Championship Series held its third international Killer Instincttournament. While this first annual tournament left a lot to be desired, each subsequent year improved on the formula. This is because of the game’s tendency to evolve via releasing season-based updates. What was once a game with a scant roster is now thrice as big with more on the way.
During the show, they announced the third and final character of Season 3 and it shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Prior to this reboot, Killer Instincthad only two games to its name and that’s a pretty limited roster to pull from. Prior to this weekend, there’s only been one pre-existing Killer Instinct character left to appear. That would be Eyedol, the two-headed Cyclops who acted as the endboss in the first game.
Back in 1994, despite Killer Instinct’s graphics being groundbreaking at the time, Eyedol looked like a cross between an action figure and something out of Jason and the Argonauts. But now in 2016? Eyedol is genuinely terrifying.
Criiiipes.
They’re playing up an old plot thread from the old games where Eyedol and Gargos were supposed to be great rivals. They worked it in a way where instead of being an actual two-headed beast, Eyedol died from having his head cleaved down the middle and was resurrected without having that giant wound healed up.
That throbbing in-between the heads is just...man.
Anyway, Eyedol will be available on July 22. Heh. Two-two. That’s good.
Gavin Jasper figures Microsoft could make some serious cash by offering Eyedol t-shirts. Meaning buying a shirt as DLC to cover up Eyedol’s gross torso. Follow Gavin on Twitter!
