The famed writer behind The Dark Knight is now taking his talents to the Star Wars universe.

You may not instantly recognize David Goyer by name, but you are most certainly familiar with his work. As a writer, Goyer has contributed to some of the most recognizable film adaptations of comics including Man of Steel and Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins. He's made a name for himself as a writer that just gets how to translate the most fantastic of worlds and characters to the big screen.

And now, it appears that he's writing a most unusual movie about Darth Vader.

According to an announcement on the official Star Wars website, David Goyer is currently writing an interactive VR movie centered around everyone's favorite dark side father. This project is a part of Industrial Light and Magic's new ILMxLAB division which will reportedly focus on creating immersive entertainment based on the Star Wars universe.

Goyer spoke briefly about the project, stating that he and the ILM Team were not only interested in doing more with the character of Darth Vader, but tried to look at the entirety of the Star Wars universe to find what they could do with this technology that nobody has really seen before.

"When we looked at all the characters, places, and worlds in the Star Warsuniverse available to us, we asked ourselves, ‘What haven’t we seen before? Who are we curious about?'" Goyer said of the project. "Darth Vader is the perfect ambassador to usher us into the Star Wars VR universe.”

Goyer also detailed the player's role in this project by stating that he/she is essentially a "visitor" in this world and will be able to perform minor interactions with items and people. Some of these actions will reportedly have an effect on the overall narrative, though it doesn't appear that the movie is being billed as a choose your own adventure tale at this time.

Interestingly, Goyer also noted that the world itself will be persistent and that players will notice things like shifting weather conditions and regular day/night cycles.

Currently, there is no release date set for this film, but the brief closed-doors teaser of the film shown at Star Wars Celebration, as well as the hints dropped by the team, suggest that the project's developers are hoping to reveal more about it soon.
