Are you ready to curse at your screen over children's platformers all over again?
Get ready for a triple dose of '90s nostalgia as three of the greatest Disney video games ever made are now available for your download pleasure on Good Old Games.
Starting today, you will be able to download The Lion King, The Jungle Book, and Aladdin from GOG.com. These games are compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux machines and, like every GOG game, come free of DRM requirements. At the moment, you can buy them individually for $8.99 or as a bundle for $19.99. Please note, however, that the current individual game price is a limited-time offer as part of these titles' introductory period, and that it will rise to $9.99 in the coming days.
Also, for those curious, this Aladdin port is based on the original Sega Genesis and PC version of the game as opposed to the SNES build. This is either very good or very bad news depending on where your port loyalties lie, but Super Nintendo fans can take comfort in the fact that this still an excellent version of the experience that even benefited from the help of Disney's animation team.
Each made by Virgin Interactive in the '90s, these three games managed to provide a kind of light in the darkness at a time when licensed games were almost universally terrible. Each of them is infamous for their large sprites, smooth animation, clever interpretations of their source material, fantastic soundtracks, and for being some of the most brutally unforgiving platformers of the era.
Anyone who doubts that last statement has clearly never attempted Lion King's stampede level.
These releases mark a big win for Disney fans everywhere who grew up on these titles, as well as for Good Old Games who have slowly been expanding their digital library with titles that were previously lost to history. We can only hope that this means No One Lives Forever still has a chance of seeing modern PC gaming daylight.
