Fans of cooperative indie titles may want to give this debut trailer a look.
If you've never heard of game development studio Gamera Interactive...well, that would probably be because they've never released a game before. However, that may change soon as they've just released the first trailer for their first project (Unit 4), and it's looking pretty great.
Check it out:
Unit 4 is an action adventure game that does technically support 1-4 players but does appear to be designed more as a cooperative experience. Every player that does hop into the action will be able to choose between a member of the game's unit of heroes and take advantage of their unique abilities while hunting down an alien force that's taken some rather important items and doesn't appear to be in a hurry to give them back.
The gameplay has some general 2D platformer elements about it and even seems to be paying tribute to certain classic games with specific character abilities such as Blue's Mega Man wall slide or Geen's Bionic Commando worthy hook.
The real draw of this trailer, however, are those graphics. This isn't quite the standard retro tribute visuals that we've seen in the past, but rather a fantastic mix of modern pixel art with some retro, minimalistic character designs. They're as distinctive as they are impressive.
Currently, Unit 4 is set to release sometime in early 2017 for the Xbox One.
