The long-awaited ability to create private matches is finally on the way.
One of Destiny's most requested features will finally be implemented with the release of the Rise of Iron expansion as Bungie confirmed today at Gamescom that they will be introducing private matchmaking to Destiny's player vs. player matches.
When Rise of Iron debuts on September 20th, it will bring with it the long-awaited ability to create private PvP matches as opposed to wading through the public servers. Although this feature will not be available until Rise of Iron releases, players will not have to own the upcoming expansion in order to access it.
Bungie used a recent livestream to give fans a brief look at the customization options they will be able to implement as part of this private matchmaking feature, which includes the ability to change the map, score limit, time limit, time of day, and other aesthetical options. This blog post details how, exactly, you will be able to create a private match as well as the full range of options you will find once you have initiated a session. Also of note is a comment that Bungie made in a recent interview with Game Informer where they stated that this initial version of the mode is something of a test for the concept moving forward and that Bungie will explore adding additional customization options as the feature progresses.
The developer also confirmed the new multiplayer maps that will be featured in Rise of Iron are Last Exit, Skyline, and Floating Gardens. Additionally, the expansion will introduce a new competitive mode called Supremacy which sees two teams of six do battle over crests that drop when players are killed. These crests grant points, and the team with the most points at the end of the match wins.
Although we're still waiting for further details on a few of Rise of Iron's features (most notably its new raid), it appears this upcoming expansion will indeed be Destiny's most significant release yet.
