It appears the rumors of this P.T. succesors' demise were greatly exaggerated.
Allison Road, the fan-made spiritual successor to P.T., was believed to be dead in the water after developer Far From Home and publisher Team 17 failed to reach an agreement regarding the game's continued production earlier this year, but now, it appears that the title will continue to be developed after all.
Far From Home co-founder and Allison Road's creator Christian Kesler released a statement to IGN today in which he confirms that he will continue to develop Allison Road without the support of Team 17 or, at present, any other publisher.
"After the setback, I took a bit of a break from working on it and re-evaluated all the work that had been done so far," said Kesler. "I started making a few (in my opinion) necessary changes to the story and the flow, little bits and pieces here and there, and before I knew it, it sort of naturally came back to life.”
Currently, Kesler plans to continue the development of Allison Road entirely on his own. While he has not ruled out the possibility of needing additional help should the game continue to evolve from it's current state, he expressed his confidence in his ability to finish the project as it currently stands due to the fact that he was responsible for the creation of many of the game's visual elements and, as he noted in his statement, because "a lot of the mechanics are already implemented from the previous development phase."
It's unknown exactly how far along Allison Road was prior to the developer's agreement with Team 17 falling apart, but Kesler's statement does seem to suggest that the project may not be that far from completion. If that is the case, it would certainly be exciting news for all those fans that have been following the game since its Kickstarter funding phase (during which Far From Home decided to go with a traditional publisher instead) and find themselves drawn to the title's incredibly frightening atmosphere and faithful recreation of many of the elements that made P.T. the overnight horror sensation that it was.
