Following a recent round of updates, Dolphin just reached a huge technical milestone.
We at Den of Geek would never encourage gamers to use an emulator outside of the legally intended purposes of such software. With that out of the way, allow us to inform you why the Dolphin Emulator just became perhaps the most impressive program of its kind on the internet.
First released in 2008, the Dolphin Emulator was designed to allow you to play any GameCube game on PC. The only problem was that it was only capable of playing a few GameCube games when it debuted and often did so with many technical issues. Thanks to years of community updates, though, the Dolphin Emulator is now finally capable of running any GameCube game. This moment was celebrated by the upload of this video on the Dolphin Emulator YouTube channel, which shows the elusive Star Wars: The Clone Wars finally running on the program:
To be perfectly clear, even though Dolphin can boot up any GameCube game, it still struggles to run some titles at their full, intended capabilities. As such, you can expect to encounter some crashes and other unfortunate occurrences should you choose to use Dolphin.
However, the "massive code rewrite" required to finally get Clone Wars working also allowed the Dolphin Emulator team to address many of the most prominent issues that users of the emulator would experience. The Dolphin Emulator now runs faster than ever before and ensures that you will be able to at least see the boot-up screen of any GameCube game.
That's not something that many emulators designed to work with consoles released sine 2000 can say, making Dolphin Emulator the most impressive technical accomplishment on the emulator scene in some time.
